Rupert Murdoch Extols Immigration
Immigration Daily ^ | Feb. 8, 2005 | None listed

Immigration Daily is pleased to bring to our readers a pro-immigration op-ed by Rupert Murdoch. Mr. Murdoch is the head of News Corp, one of the largest media companies in the world, involved in the production and distribution of newspapers, films, television, satellite, and cable tv. We commend Mr. Murdoch for taking the time to write and express his pro-immigration views (we encourage other successful immigrants to follow his lead). Some excerpts:

"In my book, anyone who comes here and gives an honest day's work for an honest day's pay is not only putting himself closer to the American Dream, he's helping the rest of us get there too."

"As Ronald Reagan said at the Statue of Liberty, "While we applaud those immigrants who stand out, whose contributions are easily discerned, we know that America's heroes are also those whose names are remembered by only a few."

"Maybe this is more clear to businessmen because of what we see every day. My company, News Corporation, is a multinational company based in America. Our diversity is based on talent, cooperation and ability.

Frankly it doesn't bother me in the least that millions of people are attracted to our shores. What we should worry about is the day they no longer find these shores attractive. In an era when too many of our pundits declare that the American Dream is a fraud, it is America's immigrants who remind us--by dint of their success--that the Dream is alive, and well within reach of anyone willing to work for it."

"... as President Bush realizes, we'll never fix the problem of illegal immigration simply by throwing up walls and trying to make all of us police them. We've tried that for a decade or so now, and it's been a flop. What we need to do first is to make it easier for those who seek honest work to do so without having to disobey our laws. Fundamentally that means recognizing that an economy as powerful as ours is always going to have a demand for more workers."

We welcome readers to share their opinion and ideas with us by writing to editor@ilw.com.

TOPICS: Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: aliens; freeloaders; illegals; immigration; murdock; sovreignty
Shouldn't that last line read, "Fundamentally that means recognizing that an economy as powerful as ours is always going to have a demand for more workers at slave wages?"

Another voice heard coming from the Ivory Tower. I doubt that Mr. Murdock has much face to face contact with the people he's talking about. I'm sure he'd love to replace most of his employees with the low wage unskilled "aliens".

I believe we need a mass amount of immigrants in order for this country to further compete with the large population emerging powers like India, China, and to a lesser extent the EU. We need to do a better job to encourage the brain dump from to America which has slowed down since 9/11. We need assimilation laws that makes everyone learn English and make every government document including ballots to be in English.

But on top of that we need to be able to control and engineer the types of people that are coming into this country.

"I'm sure he'd love to replace most of his employees with the low wage unskilled "aliens". "

As opposed to what? Overpaid unskilled union members?

"at slave wages"

As long as they are paid minimum wage why should anyone else care?

By the way, how much is a slave's wage?

Agreed, he's above speaking to the little people.

Another hater of the nation state, I might add. We business people broadly fall into three buckets. Guys like Murdoch are the uppity, ungracious spoilt children, who have neither respect nor gratitude for the very protective strata who allowed them to excel in the first place. The second bucket are the terminally clueless, men and women who go with the flow and never really think about who to thank for the rule of law and other factors that made their success even possible. The main difference of group two versus group one is that they are not uppity and spoilt like Murdoch - the keep their festering gobs shut and obey the law. The last group, of which I am part, realize that part of one's reinvestment strategy needs to include investment into the Western and Western patterned nation states that have been havens of freedom, sanity and law, and which have been the breeding grounds of capitalism. We ARE different from the countries now so in vogue with globalist fools. And true success means being successful without cashing out the very lands and systems that allowed our birth. Don't be fooled by the rhetoric of those who would label my view as "socialist" or "overly regulatory." Indeed, there should not have to be laws to regulate chivalric honor, however, should things get too far out of hand vis a vis immigration, border busting and enabling fiendish anti Western lands, then some imposition on us all may be unavoidable. And you can take that to the bank.

Interesting question on CNN/Lou Dobbs poll today:

Who should bear the cost of jailing criminal illegal aliens?

Federal government 38% 933 votes
State governments 1% 26 votes
Countries of origin 61% 1513 votes

http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/lou.dobbs.tonight/
Total: 2472 votes

He's out of touch with the real problem.

It's not the American dream that the 'walls' are trying to keep immigrants away from. It is the medicare, medicaid, SSI, disability, L&I, food stamps, Section 8 subsistence, WIC, free dental, free school lunches and on and on into the bowels of Socialist America that immigrants learn how to 'game' the system to their advantage.

The immigrants of today especially the illegal ones have very low productivity, very little education, they have health problems, family poverty, language difficulties and yet 'some' are able to over come those problems but their families cannot survive on what they produce. So they resort to 'government services'.

That's what has people upset, to see their taxes (sales, property, local income) go up 15-20% a year with no material return except a larger population of people on the dole and larger government.

Immigrant males especially from Mexico will by culture often seek jobs by standing on street corners or selling produce in traffic and so on, but each of them has an extended family that are packing themselves into small apartments or homes and receiving checks from a myriad of social services.

Want a job? want to work hard? Experience the American Dream? No problem but it isn't there like it used to be. It's no longer as free a country as to afford such dreams. Most everything is regulated, controlled, supervised, insured for liability, insured for health. Day labor employers may get away with it but there's a cost. The dollars they put into the pockets of those laborers find themselves at Western Union with a wire to a bank in Mexico, where others are waiting to make the border hopping journey.

Mr. Murdoch insults the heart of America by insinuating that Aemricans are not sympathetic to the plight of poor immigrants. To the contrary Americans are compassionate to a fault. But Americans they hate being deceived by socialist bureacracy that looks upon illegal immigrants as a 'customer base' from which to grow their budgets.

Every illegal immigrant child is a basis unit for federal funding for the school in which they are enrolled.

President Bush often insults American hearts by claiming rightly or wrongly that illegal immigrants are doing jobs that Americans do not want to do.

How many fast food outlets does America need? Does President Bush have any clue as to how many heads of lettuce are thrown out each day in America? Does he know that illegal immigrant labor can reduce the cost of a head of lettuce by 20 percent yet the social service cost of extended families of those illegal immigrants raises taxes on Americans by a larger dollar amount.

So we pay less for lettuce but more in taxes, where is the benefit?

And to the canard of 'illegal immigrants pay taxes', not in a net sense. Looking at net taxes paid to services received, the net is negative.

How many Americans live in states where a sales tax if it exists has crept from 3% to 4% to 6% to 8% and further. In Washington State it is 8.8% and there are attempts every year to raise it more to 9.8% and beyond. Still that's not enough, the socialists want an income tax as well, or they will tax businesses more and now they are considering taxing certain professionals such as doctors a certain percentage of their salary.

Mr. Murdoch is a billionaire who more than likely has an entire office engineering his own personal tax system.

Mr. Murdich, Mr. Gates III, Mr. Buffett and other billionaires would do well to visit the streets of the barrios in Los Angeles and other cities, to chat with illegals on street corners and visit their families. This will never happen because they could never handle the truth. They're only good for making lofty speeches about immigration and the American dream.

I wonder if this elitist has fences around his yard or locks his doors --- if he does then he's nothing but a hypocrit. Very likely he identifies with the oligarchs of Mexico who are in desperate need of massive immigration or else they'll be over-turned in no time.

Immigrants like Murdoch shouldn't get a say in the composition of the nation until they pass a probationary period, which should end the day after they die. Murdoch is the last individual who ought to give such advice, he is an internationalist fat cat with absolutely no loyalty to any nation or thing and who sees people and nations as just colonies to be exploited by him and his supranational business buddies.
