Lee and Woolsey will lead caucus (co-chairwomen of the Congressional Progressive Caucus) BARF Alert!

Bay Area Reps. Barbara Lee and Lynn Woolsey were unanimously elected Tuesday as co-chairwomen of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Lee, D-Oakland, has been co-chairwoman of the group of several dozen liberal Democrats in the past; Woolsey, D-Petaluma, replaces Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio.

"During the last election cycle, tens of thousands of people got involved with politics for the first time because they were drawn to the basic principles of fairness and justice that the Progressive Caucus has long represented in Congress," said Lee, vowing to continue the commitment to those principles while building "stronger connections with young people and communities of color."

Woolsey said the Bush administration "is taking us down a treacherous path in regards to our domestic budget priorities and international policies."

She said the caucus will work toward "putting America back on track by protecting civil rights, promoting renewable energy sources, supporting U.S. troops by bringing them home from Iraq and fighting the real war against terrorism by working toward international cooperation and peace rather than warmongering."

Does the "progressive caucus" have members who are also part of the "Socialist Democrat" caucus?

Woolsey is my congress rep. You other people out there have no idea how despairing it is to have no representation at all in Congress or the Senate. My senators are Boxer and Feinstein. I don't even bother contacting them anymore.
One of the reasons I became politically aware and active was because of Woolsey's attack on the Boy Scouts. I went to one of her "town meetings" to protest. I was amazed at her lack of speaking ability, not that I'm any better, but then again I'm not in Congress. This woman was obviously flustered and nervous even in a room full of her own supporters. Of course when I broached the Scouting issue, she quickly did the "next question" ploy. I had one other meeting with her at her office in San Rafael with a group of travel agency owners regarding a airline anti-trust issue. Nothing ever came of it; I did note that she received money from the airlines, not very much. It did open my eyes to how cheaply influence can be purchased. All in all, my opinion of her is "dumb as a box of rocks" and now I just remember what she said at that town meeting:
"I hope I never have to vote towards the center"
The people of Marin and Sonoma deserve better representation than this, I really feel that the Republican party has abandoned us. Oh by the way, Woolsey will NEVER NEVER debate an opponent if she can avoid it. I wonder what it will take to wake up the people in California to the fact that their socialist tolerant multi-cultural Nirvana is slowly destroying what was once a great state.

I feel for ya - my congresscritter is the terminally insipid and vapid Lois Capps :-(

Well, at least we have Ah-nold...he's sort of a Republican.

Unfortunately Lynn Woolsry is my representative. Her claim to fame is that before she was elected to Congress, she was on welfare and is very proud of it. Oh, the pain of being a conservative in the SF Bay Area.

My understanding is that she was collecting welfare while starting her own business. Can't verify this, but seem to remember hearing it.
