Good Morning Iraq - Robin Williams Puts on a Show
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | Wednesday, February 9, 2005 | Phil Bronstein

Posted on 02/09/2005 10:36:28 AM PST by Santiago de la Vega

But the one takeoff, out of Balad, at night. Totally blacked out. They're in all night-vision goggles and I was sitting in the back this time. ... And they just go whoooom and it's straight up, just like Space Mountain, and all you hear is like WHOA!

And people who have done it are like, "Shut up. Is that your hand?"

"Maybe."

It's all C-130s, which are these old, the standard ones they've been using for years. They don't have the gunner anymore.

The weird thing is with the crew on the C-130, everyone's looking for flashes, even with night vision. They're just looking for that.

One time we took off out of Afghanistan, I was sitting in the cockpit. You hear: (robotic voice) "Missile launch, missile launch," and they pop flares but it can be a reflection off the ground. Any heat signature off the ground registers as a missile? "Is that OK?" And they say, "Yeah, that's nothing."

Oh really? OK, thank you. (In robotic voice: Windshear, 500. Missile launch.) And they run the test on all of those things. (Robotic voice, shrill this time): "Warning: You're f -- . Warning: Back up, move out."

But there was never a sense of imminent danger, I mean, even though the week after we left, they hit that cafeteria, which we'd been in the year before.

Robin is one of the funniest people on the planet. He went to Iraq and Afghanistan recently to entertain the people there, both warriors and civilians.

Read the interview carefully, and slowly. You can read into the article all the energy he puts into everything he does. The troops love him, because he talks their language. The commanders are scared witless, cause he's a one man wrecking crew.

Phil Brownsteen did the interview; he's the editor of the local Blatt. I don't know him. Through the interview he keeps trying to steer Robin into condemning the war, and Robin just refuses to get into it till the end, when they discuss wounds and death.

Robin's a good guy.

Robin's a good guy.

He is a total liberal but any entertainer going into war zone to help our troops gets a thumbs up.

He is, but he has been supportive of the troops.

He's hilarious, either way.

He's rabidly anti-Bush (although probably not quite as much as Whoopi).

He is and HATES W! He's done good as far as supporting our soldiers, since practically all HELLywood have turn their backs on them, but I have a problem when he insults our prez with curse words. BTW, I've seen Robin's interviewers and he can't stay quiet or sit still, is he on drugs or something?

He may be, but he also loves to poke fun at power and authority, and that's one of the reasons why the troops like his shtick.

Glad he is making the troops lives a little lighter--and it seems like his heart is in the right place, unlike his politix

He is a manic lefty but he goes and performs for our troops and they just love him. He may be a manic lefty but unlike most of them in Hollywierd he cares about our troops.

"...Phil Brownsteen did the interview; he's the editor of the local Blatt...."

For what it is worth, Phil Bronstein is the ex-Mr. Sharon Stone. Kudos to Phil for surviving the ordeal, if for nothing else. Considering the fates of Ms. Basic Instinct's other San Francisco boyfriends, he's done well.

Phil Bronstein is the ex-Mr. Sharon Stone. I believe Phil's basic instincts are leftist.

Bronstein is the Editor of the San Francisco Chronicle and the ex of Sharon Stone; is it me but this article reads very poorly, I mean it is really sloppy writing for a journalist much less an editor.

Does it matter? Do you ask that question of anyone who tells you a joke so know if its OK for you to laugh?
