William Slavoski, 48, placed on leave after alleged physical, verbal assault on officer following sons arrest.
EXETER (PA) A Secret Service agent cursed and drove his shoulder into a borough police officers chest after the officer took the agents son into custody for underage drinking, police said.
Agent William Slavoski, of Ivy Drive in Shavertown, has been put on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of criminal charges filed in the Jan. 9 incident. He is employed at the agencys Scranton office.
Borough officer Dion Fernandes charged the 48-year-old Slavoski Feb. 2 with simple assault, harassment, terroristic threats, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.
According to arrest papers:
Fernandes approached a large group of kids near a Scarboro Avenue home at 4:20 p.m. He asked the youths where they came from but they didnt answer. He also saw people looking out a window of a nearby home.
Fernandes smelled alcohol while speaking with the youths, all of whom were younger than 21. He called for additional police officers and administered a breath test to all of the youths. He then took them to the station to contact their parents.
At the station, Fernandes called Slavoski to inform him his son was involved. Slavoski said he would pick up his son.
But Slavoski again spoke with Fernandes via telephone and began yelling and cursing at Fernandes, telling the officer he had no right to take Slavoskis son into custody.
Fernandes hung up.
Slavoski came to the station a short time later and continued cursing at Fernandes.
Fernandes asked Slavoski to leave the building, but the agent refused, and began saying he is a federal agent.
Fernandes repeatedly asked Slavoski to leave and the agent continued to make comments to Fernandes and urged the officer to arrest and hit him.
Slavoski, at one point, told Fernandes he would be at the station waiting for Fernandes when he got off duty.
Thats when Slavoski drove his shoulder into Fernandes chest. Another civilian at the station convinced Slavoski to leave. Fernandes said several people witnessed the incident.
Robert Slama, the assistant special agent in charge of the Philadelphia office of the Secret Service, said it is routine for an agent to be put on leave under these circumstances.
A preliminary hearing before District Justice Joseph Carmody in West Pittston is scheduled for March. Slavoski could not be reached.
Sounds like this particular fed was lucky he didn't get arrested himself.
"Do you have any idea who I am?" bump.
I have a lot of respect for LEOs and most Feds, but this guy is a stupid hot-head. The kid would probably have just gotten a warning, but now the father is in serious danger of losing his job and further prosecution. Dumb move.
wow I wish I could drive my shoulder into a local cop and get away without being arrested....
Another one that got through the cracks of the screeing process.
Sorry to see this happen to a Secret Service agent, but he got what he deserved. Sounds like even the SS has its share of "Ferret face" Major Burns types.
At the end of the day, this guy is gonna *wish* he could have just gotten arrested. As it is, he's likely going to lose his job due to inability to successfully complete his next background investigation. He won't be able to get another job in law enforcement. He'll lose his retirement, which, at 48 years old, is no minor consideration.
This guy is (rightfully) screwed.
There's ordinarily a great deal of slack cut from one cop to another, even to feds from non-feds...but it sounds like this guy used up all his professional courtesy just staying out of the local tank.
yep pretty much.
This guys security clearance is pretty much gone.
Just the simple assault is enough. The terroristic threats and all that stuff is just the icing...
It's not likely to be as bad as all that. He'll be able to go to work for BATFE, or maybe become a university cop.
LOL okay, you got me there. He can be a mall security guard or something. Quite a pay hit from being a GS-13 to working for Bob's Security Service, though.
There was another story of a SS agent in Montana just getting arrested for something.
Secret Service Agent Sent Home After Becoming Intoxicated at North Dakota Bar
yeah only about $60,000 or so
The funny thing is that had this situation been reversed (the agent arresting the cop's son), it is possible the cop would have done the same thing!
The agent's actions are obviously inexcusible, but I'm wondering why the cop arrested someone for teenage drinking on private property. Perhaps I misunderstood the article, but it did say something about near the house. If the agent was trying to tell the officer that he had no basis for an arrest, and that was correct, that might mitigate the other stuff.
Which is just about as open an admission as one can possibly get that "the usual laws and rules don't apply to me or my family, because I'm a federal agent."
Is this part of the training process when one becomes a fed? "And remember, folks, you're about to become a federal agent which means you can get away with all sorts of things, like shoving a police officer in the chest and not get arrested." (This would be felony assault on an officer, if a mere civilian did it.)
Charged with "terroristic threats..."
I sense trouble here. A Secret Service Agent is being charged with making "terroistic threats"!
Is this an abuse of the law or what?
If it can happen to an Agent, then who is safe from yelling when angry?
Time to revisit and overhaul some laws. Let's start with RICO!
We definitely do not want a 'hot-head' like this protecting the President of the United States. We need someone who can remain calm, cool, and collected. This guy has failed that test. He needs to be reassigned.
