Opponents of same-sex marriage call it an unexpected and remarkable move: The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court has agreed to hear oral arguments on a request to block the ruling that legalized same-sex marriage in the commonwealth.

Same-sex couples have been permitted to legally marry in Massachusetts since May 17, 2004, as a result of the Supreme Judicial Court's Goodridge v. Department of Public Health decision.

They're going to block their own ruling? I seriously doubt it.

The scary thing here is the Court thinks it has a right to say what can even go into the Constitution. The Courts role is to interpret the Constitution. When they take on the role of prohibiting the Constitution to change to protect their pet peeve issue, they have eliminated the balance of power which our country is based on.

No big deal. Probably just the judges way of solidifying or strengthening their prior decision.

Google News only has three articles, all in similar Christian news outlets, and all based on the same press release from the Thomas More center that doesn't give any details about what the Court has agreed to hear. Color me skeptical until an independent news group tells us what the hell is going on.

I'm going to stop using taglines until I can remember to delete them after I'm done with them. I didn't mean that for this thread!

I live in Massachusetts and want to hope for the best. The ruling originally was 3:2 when it passed. Republicans are steadily gaining power in this state, realizing that Kerry only took 62% of the vote. The state that continues to elect Kennedy.

I admire your optimism, but Democrats have the most seats in the legislature of any single party since, like, the 1850s. Republicans have been steadily losing ground since the early 1990s and I don't know what's going to stop it.

This will not be good, but then, what else can they do? So what if TM wins this. The proposed amendment will write civil unions, equal in every way to marriage, into the constition. What will they have won? I guess if the Court goes for this and then the amendment fail they would have won something. The activist court would never risk it.

The Democrats are what eventually will stop it. It looks gloomy now but there are signs for optimism. The tide is turning slowly but it is turning.

Re: "Why don't I feel good about this?"

I wouldn't worry too much the court is just taking names of the opponents of their oligarchy so they know the names of the first batch of "residents" in their reeducation camps.

I totally agree. DiMasi's reshuffle gives conservatives a clear choice for the first time in years.
