The settlement is the result of litigation from a San Francisco area activist who has been seeking to raise public awareness of the health dangers from the trans fatty acids (TFAs) in hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils. Why should his efforts to "raise awareness" come out of anybody's pocket but his own?????

What about all the cookies, crackers, breads, that contain hydrogenated fats? What about cottonseed oil? (not even a food)
All these are trans fats. If all of us really started reading the labels like we should, we would realize more than 3/4 of fast foods and convenience foods have these trans fats in them.
WHY MC DONALD'S??
To: Sunshine Sister
And who do we complain to because Oreo cookies now taste like poop? Well, now you know who to sue...

Can anyone say "tort reform?"I can say, "Boycott McDonald's."
Wonder what would happen should paying nuisance blackmail become more expensive than fighting the legal fight?
No more Golden Arches for me . . .

Smokers (unless they're fat) don't take up two spots on an elevator.

Amen! All those holier than thou who don't smoke, but go to fast food restaurants are getting the wake up call. High damn time as far as I'm concerned!

The settlement is the result of litigation from a San Francisco area activist
And the main beneficiary is the trial lawyers who collected huge fees for bringing the lawsuit.

For the record, I have nothing against people that smoke or are obese. People can do whatever they want to their bodies so long as they don't force themselves or their activities on me.

"Can anyone say 'tort reform?'"
Why would the lawyers, who are the majority of lawmakers; and the judges, who manipulate the laws to the advantage of attorneys, want to bring an end to a system that only benefits attorneys?
Tort reform = Kill all the attorneys.

That's like tossing a quarter into a panhandlers cup. McD sells $8.5 million in fries every 3 hours. I hear ya. And I am sure they can afford it. But what a waste of money.
And why are these corporations buckling under to law suits to begin with? Just like Big Tobacco! Fell to their knees in front of the Attorney Generals! What a bunch of cowards.
Maybe we aren't seeing the whole picture? Maybe there is something going on under the table with Big Mac? You think?
No one buckles this easily unless there is something in it for them!

Why is McDonald's being singled out?
McD just lucked out to be at the top of the list. Now that the lawsuit was successful, look for other food sellers to get their notices to appear in court. Then, look for the efforts to expand into other venues.
This was just step #1.

And what about Burger King and Arby's and KKC????? Maybe they are next!
