Alan Keyes' Daughter Coming Out
CBS News ^ | February 14, 2005

Posted on 02/14/2005 12:32:30 AM PST by RWR8189

(CBS) The 19-year-old daughter of Alan Keyes has a Valentine for the anti-gay rights conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate.

Maya Marcel-Keyes will be making her first public appearance as a gay activist at a Valentine Day's rally in front of the Maryland State House, says Dan Furmansky, the leader of Equality Maryland, a gay rights group.

Last summer her father, a conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate, caused a stir during the Republican convention by labeling Vice President Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter a sinner and calling homosexuality "selfish hedonism."

"It was kind of strange that he said it like a hypothetical," she told the Washington Post. "It was really kind of unpleasant."

Marcel-Keyes told the Post her parents have thrown her out of the house, stopped speaking to her and refuse to pay for college because she is gay. She said she loves her parents.

Keyes' Web site says he is against "the homosexual rights agenda, including same-sex marriage."

Marcel-Keyes grew up in Darnestown, Md., attended a conservative Catholic school for girls in McLean, Va., spent a year in the south of India advocating tribal rights, and plans to attend Brown University this fall, according to an Equality Maryland press release.

Furmansky told CBSNews.com that Marcel-Keyes would not be speaking to the media ahead of Monday's rally, and probably not afterward, either.

Bloggers have identified her Web site as http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=Xmisled0youthX. The author of the blog says it is public and she has nothing to hide.

You've seen ONE article about it. Not much to build on, NS.

The Cheneys apparently love their daughter more than the Lord.

"If anyone says he loves Me, and hates his neighbor, he is a liar."

There's been no mention of hate whatsoever here, except by those who hate Keyes. I echoed post 2 above.

If you really believe there is a God who is holy and has set forth laws to be followed or... be ultimately sentenced to hell, then you would never allow your child to believe that their immoral choices are fine and dandy. Every child becomes a free willed adult and if they choose to go separate paths from their parents, then so be it. Just don't try to play victim because Mom and Dad won't give you money and a free ride while you pursue a path completely opposed to their beliefs.

God is love and has holy standards. He requires His followers to have holy standards too.

Parents don't owe their children a college education. It's a priviledge.

Sounds like he hates "the Lord" to me.

No. I would find that difficult to do, but I'm not judging Keyes' reaction because I dont' know what really happened there.

I don't think anyone can point to any one thing and say that this is what causes homosexuality. It can be any number of things, societal influence included.

You know, when you turn your back on your children because they are doing something you disagree with, you must accept the consequences bestowed on you. 30 years ago my beloved brother decided to marry out of the religion. My parents had always told us that if we did such a thing, that would be it for the family. My Brother made his decision, and my parents made theirs. They didn't go to the wedding, nor speak to him for about five years. Of course, they loved him so much and he was such a good guy eventually, the rift did heal and they accepted his wife and life went on. My Brother died at the age of 43. What my parents would give to have those lost 5 years back.

Think about that.

Societal influence would be anything post-birth.

Are you a mormon?

He's a John Kerry Catholic. They only have three responses to any moral issue:

1) Love they neighbor.
2) Judge not.
3) Throw no stones.

And they always place those above the 1st commandment.

Talking about me behind my back again?

I believe you were outlining Christian responses while gossipping.

What kind of Christian does that make you?

Sure. Not speaking to her? Throwing her out of the house? Cut her off financially? That just screams love to me.

I always knew that Keyes was a jackass and this is just additional evidence.

I'm not happy that Obama won a Senate seat, but I think that if Keyes had been elected, he would have done more damage to the GOP than Obama ever will.

It's a public forum. It ain't gossip. You stated clearly that you believe Love thy neighbor trumps Loving the Lord. Jesus Christ says otherwise. Your Catholic church says otherwise. Your Pope says otherwise. Get thee to a nunnery or something.

BTW, this man is a grudge carrier...reparations??? In anyone else it would be called liberal whining.

Intelligent and informed people know the content and context of his statements on reparations. Don't think everyone is buying your BS on that.

After what Keyes said about Cheney's daughter, Maya has got to be loving rubbing his face in it.

I enjoy seeing Keyes in this position, too. I shouldn't, but I do. The man has always struck me as a self-righteous megalomaniac.

Did He?

"As long as you did it for one of these, the least of my brethren, you did it for Me."

Loving your neighbor IS loving the Lord.

but I can't imagine what the dating scene is like at a school where one's sexual identity can be so fluid.

As I understand it, most college kids don't really "date" anymore. At least, not in the traditional sense.

Talking about me behind my back again?

Is that like posting behind Alan Keyes' back?

Your posts speak volumes about the state of your own hearts. They tell us nothing about Alan Keyes or his daughter.

Yes we do. Keyes said that it would be fine with him if Oprah Winfrey and Michael Jordan cashed in on the backs of the American taxpayers. Might have been a slave or two somewhere in their ancestry.
