If membership in the Democratic party is required for church membership, wouldnt that somehow affect the churches non profit status? Where do we report this?

It is virtually impossible for an active Democrat also to be a deacon or an elder at an Anglo conservative evangelical church. A session or board of deacons in such a situation would likely not be as upfront about dealing with a liberal officer, as black churches apparently have a de facto exemption from IRS regulations that deny tax-exempt status for churches engaging in politics. But such a deacon or elder would likely be shunned by the others and not reelected. My experience is that members of such churches of a liberal bent keep quiet about their politics. In Anglo conservative evangelical churches, you would have been hard pressed to find Kerry bumper stickers on the vehicles in the parking lot. However, Bush bumper stickers were quite frequent.

The alignment of politics with religious beliefs is a two way street.
