BOSTON TOO, HAS SUPER HIV CASE
Massachusetts doctors have reported several HIV patients with resistance to some of the most commonly prescribed treatments, rasing further concerns about a new, possibly drug resistant strain of the virus.
The patients resistance to drug treatment is similar to a New York City case that has sparked widespread concern amont public health experts, the Boston Herald reported.
'There is global concern that there may be an increasing amount of patients that have a resistant virus,' said Dr. Greg Robbins of Massachusetts General Hospital.

So much for the 'bugchasing' fad...
I'm serious, it's coming, "What is the Bush Administration going to do about this new epidemic? He's proposing budget cuts in research/spending, where's the compassionate conservativism in that? We're spending billions to kill people in Iraq but not a dime to help those suffering here at home. Blah, blah, blah..."
I thought i heard that the difference in this strain was the time fram from infection to full blown aids was like 3 months- are you saying it is 20? how long for regular HIV- I think that is like almost 10 years-
Didnt magic Johnson get it and now he is testing as free of the desease?
Charming isn't it? Truly it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.
I remember reading an article a while ago (like two years) where a researcher said that if it wasn't brought under control that he could see it mutating to the point of becoming airborne and/or being modified to do so by some rogue nation.
It would surprise me to find out that that guy is now living out in a cabin in the wilderness.
If I remember correctly, wasn't the original AIDS 'patient zero' also a drug user in the 1970's?
I get a kick out of when my girlffriend calls me a homophobe. I think this article shows that society should have a phobia about people who engage in such reckless behavior.
I heard a doctor of physiology on Bob Grant's show who was taling about how unnatural and danagerous gay sex really is and how the muscles and bodies are not equipped to handle this stuff.
The liberal nut jobs will continue to say that we are the problem and should be more accepting. The rock stars will hold a concert, and the talk shows will blame GWB for lack of funding.
Why don't we tell these people to keep their pants on their zippers shut.
Actually, they aren't even seeing the first cases. They are seeing people who have HIV that hasn't gone full-blown yet. My guess is these guys went in for physicals or something, and their regular blood test screened for HIV. Meanwhile, all these peoples' partners are also "spreading the wealth". Probably by late 2005 to mid-2006 we will start seeing a sudden upswing in AIDS cases, from all the fudgepackers who didn't get checked out in time. And this time, there won't be a nifty drug regimen to "make it all go away". Medical science allowed the gay community to sweep the AIDS crisis under the rug, something that never should have happened.
I wonder if the actual AIDS phase will turn out to be as aggressive as the HIV phase is.
I don't know about that, I was talking about the 'good old fashioned friendly' form of HIV/AIDS.
The herd thins. If you do dangerious acts enough you will get burned.
I hope Barney Frank gets the memo.. no more new hires for now!
"I wonder if the actual AIDS phase will turn out to be as aggressive as the HIV phase is."
An excellent question.
I don't think SARS and AIDS are anything alike. AIDS is not even contagious in the same manner as SARS and SARS is not anywhere as deadly as AIDS. A lot of people survive SARS.
Do you mean the desire for AIDS grant money?
We've seen in the news recently about smokers getting fired because of increased medical claims risk. What kind of wrath would one face for firing a homosexual?
When did Condi Rice and Alberto Gonzaels know?
NOTE TO SELF:
Maintain same lifestyle that has so far not resulted in contracting AIDS, HIV, or any other STD.
- do not start using drugs administered via needle
- do not engage in unprotected sex with strangers
- continue to hold the same opinion that the vast majority of people who contract HIV/AIDS do so by choice
There - that oughta do it.
New York, now Boston. San Francisco can't be far behind (pun intended).
Not to worry, Howard Dean is promising free health care for all..
