There is an almost mystical relationship between the Gurkhas and their British commanders. I don't think that would transfer to us Americans. I also wonder when they will be brought home and unleashed on the Maoists. It wouldn't be the first time (see Malaysia, 1950's) the Gurkhas made a severed head collection from a communist insurgency.
