I don't think the "it's a joke" line is much of a defense, never seems to work when someone on the right makes an "un-PC" comment. The racism in the joke is not that the Republicans would have had to use hotel staff to boost numbers... it is that the only minorities who would attend a Republican event are "hotel staff." Not people like Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, etc. I think the fact that he equates black Republicans with hotel staff is illustrative... The odd part is, I'd bet that some of those hotel staff people would be voting Republican... after all, they do work for a living!
Dean is making a lame joke by equating black Republicans to hotel maids, bellhops, etc. At least it's a step up from the way black Republicans usually are portrayed... maybe the Drudge headline could be: "Up from Slavery: Dean elevates black Republicans from slaves to paid hotel workers." At least it is something besides the lame old "Uncle Tom/Aunt Jemima" portrayal the left enjoys so much. The party of "the people" sure is tone deaf when it comes to actual working people sometimes.

Nice comment from the party of slavery to the party of Lincoln, what a moron.

Thank God a Republican didn't make this joke. After the press and the 'rats were finished with him, there wouldn't be a piece large enough to see without the aid of a microscope.

The MSM is not the controller of the media anymore, the new media will make these stories known to those who wish to know. Anyone who thinks the left can spew their hate, bigotry, racism, and lies without repercussions is out of focus with todays media environment. Dean like Kennedy, Pelosi, Kerry, Hillary, etc. do so at their own peril and the peril of the DNC. I thought real Democrats would wake up after the latest rounds of defeat and realize extreme leftist had taken over their party as stated by people like Miller and Lieberman. What once was funny is now sad and frightening to watch as they slide off the cliff into oblivion. Will a new party rise to power in the ashes of the DNC by those who have any common sense? time will tell. I am glad I am a Republican and not have to kill the pain of my conscience at night with hard liqueur and drugs. It's like seeing a big shot wall street investor lying in the gutter wrapped in his own filth and urine stoned from the bad drugs he bought from street pimps like Michael Moore and all you can think is, wow what happened to him how sad.

Nice comment from the party of slavery to the party of Lincoln, what a moron.Democrats: The Party of Slavery. Oppressing blacks on their plantations for 180 years and counting.
Republicans: Founded in 1854, for the specific purpose of liberating blacks. The first black Vice President and President will be Republicans.

This, coming from a man who had no African Americans on his staff, if I'm not mistaken. How this guy ever made it through med school is amazing to me. I just don't think he is very bright and obviously he is incapable of controlling his ignorant yapping.

Howard Dean makes me think of the Capt. Binghamton character in "McHale's Navy"....at the end of each show, after McHale got away with another scam, Binghamton would say "I could just scream..."

No, we can't deep six that looney toon yet! He's just getting to be entertaining! :P

As soon as I heard this latest Dean utterance I thought the same thing. But the sycophant media will continue to protect their darling Dean from himself.
To: paudio
A bigger question looms. Just where is Howard Dean? You would think with all the hoopla and ranting about "wonder boy" Howard Dean, the great white hope of the Democrat "traitor" Party, the DNC would be marching him out to all the news/talk programs. The Dean man is nowhere to found. Methinks the DNC is keeping their boy in the closet for now!!! Too radioactive!!!

Poor Trent Lott. You know it has to anger him. His remark was innocent. Something said to make an old man smile. And he lost his leadership position and was virtually tarred & feathered by every left journalist and web site.
Dodd gets away with it.
Byrd (the man in the white hood) gets away with it.
Dean will get away with it.

Our mistake is that we do not fight back. Finally, the RNC is fighting back instead of rolling over and playing Mr. Nice Guy.

This is pretty damn amusing coming from a guy who grew up in the lily-white Hamptons and is the former governor of a state that's whiter than a blizzard.

A local host said Dean was "2 steps from taking shots from a belltower". And I thought what a great nickname for him: Howard "Belltower" Dean

I agree. Blacks continue to vote lockstep for the dems. They have marginalized themselves. It isn't the republicans' fault that the percentage of blacks in the party is so low.
