Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman blasted newly-elected DNC chief Howard Dean on Tuesday for telling what he said was a "racist" joke to the Congressional Black Caucus.
"It's pretty offensive," Mehlman told ABC Radio host Sean Hannity. "It's pretty racist, if you ask me."
During a meeting with the CBC on Friday, Dean joked, "You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people of color in a single room? Only if they had the hotel staff in here." Beyond being offensive to minorities, Dean's characterization of Republicans was just wrong, Mehlman said.

Next he'll be saying the Oscars are gay.
Same old story. If a prominant Republican had said this very same thing, well, you know.
I love it! Dean is a psycho. Only Dean could lead todays Demon Party.
Not if it were held in a hotel in Vermont, you glass-house-inhabiting, bike-path-worshipping megalomaniac.
LOL!
What a jerkoff. Of course Condi Rice is a Republican so she can't be black....
Take heart folks. This might be just another feather, but a pound of feathers will out weigh 15 1/2 ozs of lead. Eventually all of these little double standard examples add up. The scales will tip. This will help. Be patient.
just shows what dems think of minorities
The RNC has always been sort of a cut above the DNC but Mehlman is taking us to their level by trying to make something out of that remark. I wish he hadn't. Dean is crude and rude - we don't have to be.
Uh, I think The current Cabinet has more minorities and women
than any Democratic Cabinet ever did.
As Yul Brynner's Ramses said about Moses in The Ten Commandments, "Let him rave on, that the whole world shall know he is mad"
Sounds like Dean is tauting himself as the first black DNC chief.
right.....lets see how many Black, Secretarys of State they have.....
The party of Sheets Byrd and the neo-plantation system has a right to talk????? Shame on these racists. If the blacks are not kept poor they cant buy their votes. They have ghettoized black neighborhoods and turned solid Black Families into the 'my babies daddy' syndrome.
Good shot, wideawake. I love it when a comeback is both angry and funny!!
Imagine the outrage if Mehlman had said, "Do you think we Republicans could get so many people of color in a room? Only if the hotel staff was there."
There would be calls from all over for him to step down.
One of the real-life 7 dwarfs. Where do they get these cartoon characters? Go Dean Go!
Sounds like O'Reilly's Rapper Hubcap joke.
Yeah, well, you see how well it worked for Ramses.
