More than a month after Leslie Moonves, the chairman of CBS, requested the resignations of three top journalists at the network who helped oversee a flawed report on the National Guard service of President Bush, they have yet to step down, two CBS officials said Tuesday.

This 'MemoGate' gets better'n better.

I say that Burkett's 'Lucy' was really Robin Rather... and that Burkett was just used as the 'mule'.

From the looks of Robin Rather (Dan in drag), she'd qualify as a mule too.

This is a business where only the big, driven egos survive and thrive.

The idea that these three might "take one for the team" is laughable.

It just shows that the firings were nothing but a fraud to buttress CBS's credibility.

Are the three fired employees hiding under their desks?

Not just that, but the so-called independent review by Thornberg, et al is also window-dressing.

There are actually two pics. I don't think either is a Photoshop job. Scary.

This was no "flawed report", this was not a hoax on CBS.

This was planned and executed by CBS news and the Kerry Campaign, to counter the Swift boat ads.

Burkett was in on it with them.

Simple.

Why else would an "investigation" insue (by CBS), and not be charged with finding the supposed "hoaxter", why did CBS need a panal to decide who to fire, if this was just a hoax?

If this had been Fox, other major media would have proved by now, that this was a plan by CBS and Kerry.

You are correct sir. Burkett was used only to 'clean' the source...to give plausible deniability to the "journalists" working on the story. The memo's were typed up by either the DNC or the Kerry campaign, Rather was enlisted because he is a fellow traveller and would have no problem putting his politics before his profession. Rather KNEW the memo's were fake from the word go. He used his pull to over-ride the normal vetting process at SeeBS, and I think that the one's asked to resign (except for Mapes) probably knew very little about the whole thing. That's why they are holding out. They KNOW what happened, and are in a position to nail SeeBS and Rather to the wall. I look for a generous 'severance package' to be offered, with SeeBS hoping it will all just go away.

Again, I repeat, Rather not only knew the 'memo's' were fake, he was most likely in on the conspiracy from the start, and the executives that have been asked to resign are nothing more than patsy's so SeeBS can perpetrate yet another fraud.

If they are holding out they must be receiving paychecks. Why write checks for people who are fired? Stop the checks Cancel the health plan dont pay their SS witholding. Take the crap out of their desks and throw it in the Dumpster, they will stop coming. Sooner or later.

…"it is unusual, in my experience, to ask for someone's immediate resignation and then to have the matter drag out for weeks."

Because Betsy West, Josh Howard, and Mary Murphy refuse to be made the scapegoats. By hiring lawyers, they are going to take the others down with them. This is getting good!

There is a big difference between firing someone and asking for their resignation. If you fire someone, you typically have to show some cause because the termination can prejudice their ability to find other work. Someone who resigns or is eliminated via their job being surplussed or some other means doesn't have this recourse.

CBS wants them to accept a severance package that comes along with a contract not to disclose any of these "dirty" details. Because, these people know how dirty the details really are, they are holding out for the max they can get.. because they know CBS has to cave eventually to "any" thing they want.. I wouldn't be shocked if the settlement didn't get into the millions before this game is finished, yet, I don't expect us to get to see the "dirty bits" unless Sumner Redstone has lost his marbles.

What do you figure these three do every day.

If they are fired, they can't be working, can they?

Do they just come, sit at their desks and drink coffee and read the New York Times?

Do they go to meetings?

Do they take lunch beaks from not doing anything?

Is money still going into their 401Ks?

Are they vesting their retirement benefits?

I mean, what do you do at work a month after you're fired?

This is nuts! Only in America.
