FORT PAYNE, Alabama - A DeKalb County, Alabama man told investigators that he stabbed his wife to death on Valentine's Day because she had left him and refused to return.
Israel Carreon Ortiz, 33, 337 Long Hollow Circle, Fort Payne, has been charged with murder in the death of his wife, Maria Garcia, 34. Ortiz has been denied bond.
Sheriff Cecil Reed said the couple had lived with their two children in the Lebanon area until Garcia left with the children and went to live with her two brothers near Sylvania.
About 8:30 a.m. Monday, Ortiz picked up Garcia and the children at her brothers' home. Shortly after they dropped the children at Sylvania School, Ortiz stabbed Garcia repeatedly with a kitchen knife as she got out of the passenger seat of his car.
James said that Ortiz bought beer and drove around all day drinking, with his wife's body in the car. When Ortiz told the woman's brothers he did not know where she was, they joined him in the car and rode around looking for her.
About 9:30 p.m., Fort Payne police responded to a report of three men fighting in the parking lot of Cooper Hosiery in north Fort Payne.
When officers responded, they saw blood on the passenger seat of Ortiz's car and later found the body of his wife in the trunk.
Both Ortiz and his wife were citizens of Mexico and were in the U.S. illegally. Garcia had been using the Social Security card of a deceased resident of California, and James said he was not sure of Ortiz's true identity.
"He has no documentation of any kind," he said. "We know who he says he is, but he has been arrested before for DUI, and he gave a different name."

Conclusion: there is one less illegal.

There are more illegals working the sock mills than legals.
Nobody cares until something of this nature happens.
Just doing the murderers and trunk stuffing Americans are too lazy and unmotivated to do.

So, yes, the title is mine.
You would never, never see an acknowledgmement of that sort in either the local news rag or the Gadsden Times, which is a NYT-affiliate.
These folks love their "immigrants" here.
Without them, no one would be available to work the local chicken plants or to make the cheap socks this area is known for.
Fort Payne is known as the "Sock Capital of the World".
Problem is, very few of them are made by "legal" workers. And even at that, with the starvation wages some of them get, the sock-making is steadily going away.
Quite a few of the mills have closed and are going to close.
At one time, everybody and his brother had a few knitting machines in the garage or the backroom, but the bottom has fell out in the last few years.
Now you tell me...who of us hasn't wanted to do that? Hmmmmm?

Perhaps if could afford to hire Jonnie Cochrane and Al Dershowitz, and had just kept his mouth shut, he could have gone free, and could spend the rest of his life playing golf and hunting for the real killer.

As I write this,there is a work crew of "undocumented residents" on my neighbor's roof. I've learned to identify accents a bit,and I'd guess the boss is from Mexico,and his workers are from another part of Central America (Honduras,maybe.)
MOST of the home repair work is now being done with such crews-as is tree removal,etc.
The contractors charge the same prices,but,with non-union crews,no benefits to pay,etc.,etc., I would imagine they are making a greatly improved profit.
What do the unions say about this ? Very little, I think.
I suspect the smarter members have begun hiring their own "indocumentados",and are competing with their old bosses.
