I read the EULA for office, it says nothing about WINE, Linux, Windows, or the need to use or not use any of the three. Is Microsoft responsible for making the validation work for WINE? No its not. Microsoft should however be taken to task for some rather unsavory business practices.

Perhaps you can point to the part of the EULA, Ill help

1. GRANT OF LICENSE. Microsoft grants you the following rights provided that you comply with all terms and conditions of this EULA: 1.1 Installation and use. You may: (a) install and use a copy of the Software on one personal computer or other device; and (b) install an additional copy of the Software on a second, portable device for the exclusive use of the primary user of the first copy of the Software.

Hmm I think a Linux box counts as a personal computer no? Now I am sure MS can sick a team of lawyers on anyone but do you really feel this is not an anticompetitive by MS?

All i was saying is that you don't own your XP or MS office software. You don't get to do whatever you want to it. MS owns the software and can do what they want to it. You only but the RIGHT to USE it.

as for what you've digressed into, I would say yes. But what about your argument for a Mac? can you put XP on a mac? no. how about the computer in my car? no can't do that either. How about my 286? nope it won't fly their either.

I think your point is flawed at best. It's MS's stuff. If they only want P4's to run it that is their prerogative. If they don't want Linux to run their programs that is their choice as well. They don't "owe" anyone anything.

So, where is the "Grant of License" not being honored?

Dude, lay off the crack. MS has a right to prevent piracy of its products -- that's precisely what this is all about, and no court is going to "take it task" for doing that. WINE is an emulation layer. Which means that MS has no reasonable guarantee that you are running original, licensed software. If you think a court is going to have a problem with this, you need a dose of reality. Get out of your parents' basement, take a drive, go to a park, smell the coffee, or something.
