UNESCO Remembers Assassinated Journalists
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ^ | on going | United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization

This page is dedicated to journalists who were assassinated in the exercise of their profession. It remembers their contribution to freedom of expression, democracy and peace. UNESCO encourages press freedom and campaigns for greater safety of media professionals. UNESCO is the only United Nations agency with a mandate to defend freedom of expression and press freedom. Article 1 of its Constitution requires the Organization to “further universal respect for justice, for the rule of law and for the human rights and fundamental freedoms which are affirmed for the peoples of the world, without distinction of race, sex, language or religion, by the Charter of the United Nations.” To realize this purpose the Organization is required to “collaborate in the work of advancing the mutual knowledge and understanding of peoples, through all means of mass communication and to that end recommend such international agreements as may be necessary to promote the free flow of ideas by word and image…”

In light of Eason Jordan's comments and the discourse still swirling around them, I thought this web page from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization might be of interest.

The referenced "UNESCO Remembers Assassinated Journalists" web site presents a 3 page listing of "assassinated journalists and media workers" complete with who they worked for, where they were killed and a link to a UNESCO statement regarding the killing.

The page looks to be updated on a timely enough basis to be relatively current.

H.R. 1146 will WITHDRAW the USA from the United Nations' madhouse/cesspool. UNESCO traditionally has been filled to the brim with countries that do NOT believe in freedom of speech.
The United Nations is a corrupt disgrace and it is time for the USA to WITHDRAW from and defund the United Nations. Please tell your senators, congressmen and everyone you know to support Representative Ron Paul’s bill H.R. 1146 which would WITHDRAW the USA from the United Nations, prohibit US funds going to the UN and prohibit US troops serving under UN command. H.R 1146 is the American Sovereignty Restoration Act.
The whole mission of the UN is to take power, money and national sovereignty from the USA. Thus the United States must withdraw from and defund the UN and if we go, if we are lucky, the whole thing will implode.

Welllll now, it sure sounds like Eason Jordan was actually working for UNESCO. Wonder if Jordan's 'so-called' list jives with UNESCO's?
