Putin: Iran Has No Nuclear Weapons Plans

MOSCOW - Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that he is convinced Iran does not intend to develop nuclear weapons and said he plans to visit Iran.

Putin, at a meeting with Iranian National Security Council chief Hasan Rohani, also said Russia would continue its nuclear cooperation with Iran. Moscow has helped Iran build a nuclear reactor, a project that has been heavily criticized by the United States which fears it could be used to help Tehran develop nuclear weapons.

"The latest steps from Iran confirm that Iran does not intend to produce nuclear weapons and we will continue to develop relations in all spheres, including the peaceful use of nuclear energy," Putin said.

"We hope that Iran will strictly adhere to all international agreements, in relation to Russia and the international community," Putin said.

You wonder how much of this is gullibility and how much is simply intentional maliciousness.

100% intentional maliciousness.

Putin is many things, but he's not gullible or dumb.

There you have it folks. Putin has just confirmed Iran has got an advanced nuclear weapons program probably boosted by technology sales from Russia. Thanks Vlad. You just provided the icing on the cake. Maybe the CIA won't be shaking in their boots now next time they send a WMD report to the Hill.

I wonder how much Putin's comments cost the Mullahs? Seems they lined the pockets of the IAEA as well.

What is the difference between having assembled nukes and having all the necessary components that could be configured in a matter of days or weeks?

Pooty-Poot's an idiot for saying that crap. He knows damned well what's going on, as we do, as does Israel.

Putin needs to stop letting Baghdad Bob write his copy for him.

In police academy ,one of the fundamentals taught for investigating was "follow the money". Russia has too many business dealings with Iran to make Putin's statements credible. If we were to get into military action, Russia stands to lose a paying customer in Iran... much as they did when We took down Saddam. I don't trust Putin. Despite making gestures toward Democracy and modernity, He is a Russian strongman, like so many that came before him.

Why does Vlad believe that lying on behalf of Iran is a benefit to him?

Perhaps it is a signal that Moscow won't support any action against Iran?

At this point we must refer to one of President Reagan's ultimate Truths which is, "Communists lie." Somebody please try to tell me that Putin is not a communist.

My take on it is that Pootie just gave his country an excuse for not getting involved when the balloon goes up.
They want the money from the mullahs but I don't think they really want to end up in WW3

Scenario:
Israel takes out Irans reactors
Iran lets fly whatever they've got at Israel
US comes to Israel's aid
now Russia either gets involved supporting Iran or says "we didn't know they were building nukes, we just though they wanted the electricity", plays dumb, and gets out of getting militarily involved.

Did they ever sign that mutual Iranian/Russian defense pact that was being talked about about 6 months ago?

"Putin said Friday that he is convinced Iran does not intend to develop nuclear weapons"

Gee, just a bit self-serving since he's got deals set up already with the regime.

Well, that settles it. Now we can stop worrying about a nuclear Iran cause Pootie-Poot said so.

I was delighted that the Ukraine's "orange revolution" came off because it meant the public wasn't going to tolerate unfair elections. Now I'm delighted that they've broken from having to march in step to this nonsense.

At this point it would be beneficial to go back 10 years in history.
In 1995, VP Al Gore made an agreement with the then Russian foreign minister, Viktor Chernomyrdin to keep knowledge of the Russian transfer of nuclear technology to Iran from the U.S. Congress.
This was in direct violation of U.S. law.
