Police trying to establish rapport with BTK serial killer

The big mystery in the latest BTK serial killer announcement could well be what the police lieutenant talked about the least:

"The ongoing dialogue" with BTK.

Dialogue?

For those who like mystery, for the BTK-fearful, for cable channel serial killer aficionados, it's always captivating to hear Lt. Ken Landwehr talk at all, even in monosyllables.

But on Wednesday, he spoke for four extended paragraphs about information that people already knew or guessed: that BTK recently sent notes and jewelry to the media and police.

Then Landwehr spoke for two paragraphs about something more mysterious.

He described the relationship between police and the killer as "an ongoing dialogue."

This serial killer called BTK has started killing again. The police are trying to talk with him through the media.

Here is a quote from the press conference the police gave to the media. It was really addressed to this serial killer.

"I have said before ... that the BTK investigation is the most challenging case I have ever worked on, and that BTK would be very interesting to talk with," he said.

"I still contend that this is our most challenging case, but I am very pleased with the ongoing dialogue through these letters."

After Landwehr finished, no one asked him a question. Landwehr never takes questions at these briefings.

But there it was:

Landwehr had spoken directly to BTK.

They are obviously patronizing him to get him to reveal himself.

As far as anyone knows, he hasn't killed since 1986.

Here is some information the serial killer has told the police about himself in a letter:

In December, police released details contained in the letters including the writer's claim that he was born in 1939, which would make the killer 64 or 65.

The author of the letter said his father died in World War II, and his grandparents raised him while his mother worked. He said his hobbies include hunting, fishing and camping.

The letter writer said he attended military school around 1960, then served in the military. After he was discharged in 1966, he repaired copy machines and business equipment and had a female Latina acquaintance named Petra, he wrote. He solicited prostitutes and had a lifetime fascination with railroads and trains, the letter writer wrote.

I was in Wichita when the BTK killer began writing again. They should look at any prisoners who incarceration dates match the gap in the killings.

That LaMunyon guy talks too much. Landwehr is hampered by LaMunyon blabbing.

Landwehr looks like a very good man from here.

Be lovely to catch that creature.

They are talking about this on the FOX daytime show.

He is trying to flip-off the police and they are encouraging the communications. The expert on TV felt that he might make a mistake.

He takes jewelry from his victims as trophies.

The police have tested the DNA of 4000men, including news reporters. I guess this is because these killers often try to insert themselves into the investigation because it excites them.

Some things never change. Scotland yard tried this, too. To no avail.

" Dear Boss,
I keep on hearing the police have caught me but they wont fix me just yet. I have laughed when they look so clever and talk about being on the right track. That joke about Leather Apron gave me real fits. I am down on whores and I shant quit ripping them till I do get buckled. Grand work the last job was. I gave the lady no time to squeal. How can they catch me now. I love my work and want to start again. You will soon hear of me with my funny little games. I saved some of the proper red stuff in a ginger beer bottle over the last job to write with but it went thick like glue and I cant use it. Red ink is fit enough I hope ha. ha. The next job I do I shall clip the ladys ears off and send to the police officers just for jolly wouldn't you. Keep this letter back till I do a bit more work, then give it out straight. My knife's so nice and sharp I want to get to work right away if I get a chance. Good Luck.

Yours truly
Jack the Ripper

Dont mind me giving the trade name

PS: Wasn't good enough to post this before I got all the red ink off my hands curse it No luck yet. They say I'm a doctor now. Ha ha!

Politician George Lusk, president of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee, got this one and a small parcel. Inside was half of Kate Eddowes' kidney....

From Hell.
Mr Lusk, sir,
I send you half the kidney I took from one woman and preserved for you. 'Tother piece I fried and ate, it was very nice. I may send you the bloody knife that took it out if you only wait a little while longer.

Catch me when you can Mister Lusk.

Yours truly,

Jack The Ripper.

There were a few more, too. But these are the two best known ones.

The Zodiac killer sent jeering letters to the SFPD, too.

It seem serial killers love to brag and taunt the cops....

Here is a snip from an article about the postcard BTK recently sent. He is sending his messages to the media and they send them to police who send them to the FBI.

http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/local/10810808.htm
Thursday's note was the third communication claiming to be from BTK that has been found in about a week. KAKE reported that the sender wrote that he was sorry for the colds that two of the TV station's anchors, Susan Peters and Jeff Herndon, mentioned they were suffering from during a recent broadcast. The postcard's return address said "Happ Kakemann" and listed KAKE's address.

One of KAKE's longtime journalists, Larry Hatteburg, also told viewers Thursday that police had taken a DNA swab from him - the latest in a string of swabs taken from reporters who have covered the BTK story.

Police have collected more than 4,000 DNA swabs in an effort to find the killer.
