Police trying to establish rapport with BTK serial killer
Kansas City Star ^ | 2-17-05 | ROY WENZL

The big mystery in the latest BTK serial killer announcement could well be what the police lieutenant talked about the least:

"The ongoing dialogue" with BTK.

Dialogue?

For those who like mystery, for the BTK-fearful, for cable channel serial killer aficionados, it's always captivating to hear Lt. Ken Landwehr talk at all, even in monosyllables.

But on Wednesday, he spoke for four extended paragraphs about information that people already knew or guessed: that BTK recently sent notes and jewelry to the media and police.

Then Landwehr spoke for two paragraphs about something more mysterious.

He described the relationship between police and the killer as "an ongoing dialogue."

It is possible he has been in prison as you say, but he may have been killing all along. People are now looking to see if jewelry was missing from visctims in murders not linked to BTK. He liked to take his victim's jewelry. It is possible that relatives didn't realize a victim's jewelry was stolen, so now they are going to look at that.

He waited to kill this woman, but she didn't come home so he sent her this really creepy poem:

Maybe he stopped while he was happily married, and now he's divorced?

Maybe he stopped while he had a good job and was happier, now he lost it and expresses hostility and despair by murder?

He probably stopped cuz he thought the cops were hot on the trail and close to getting him...The only thing that bothers me is if the media doesn't pay attention to him anymore will he kill again just to let them know he's still out there..

LOL
On Larry King last night he had some smuck on and he said something about the economy picking up and BTK came back to the area! I thought the same thing...LOL It's Bush's fault because the economy is better and it brought this devil back out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I believe the people of Wichita should all be armed and blow the SOB away!

This only makes any sense if it's the Wichita economy that has improved and not the area where BTK was residing at the time. Probably just a stupid remark.

My daughter lives in Wichita and we regularly discuss BTK.

I was spooked by the Larry King episode and I wondered how people can live there. But then again I was a kid in Yonkers when Son of Sam had his evil rein. Little did we know he was not too far away. I guess you just stay strong and live with it.

Was this on LKL last night? Wish I had seen it except we watch nothing but FOX in this household.

My daughter doesn't live in fear. I'm not sure if she keeps her doors locked when she's home alone, or not? We discuss this regularly but she's currently in Hawaii so may be missing new developments.

Hawaii, Lucky! Yes it was the LKL last night. I don't think they shed any light on new developments. They just had some talking heads and some sad moments when one of the Otero children were being interviewed. I am now in NE PA and I have my doors bolted day and night. I guess it is a city thing.

Did you once live in Wichita? My daughter and her husband are planning on leaving Wichita but it's not because of BTK. The post where the Post Toasties box was found was about a mile from my daughter's house. She told me there were actually two boxes.
