Hollywood vs. America Thursday, February 17, 2005 Sun., Feb. 20 at 9 p.m. ET Hosted by John Gibson "The Passion of the Christ" (search) was one of the top-grossing films of 2004, yet it has been totally ignored by the Golden Globes and doesn't prominently appear in most mainstream critics "Best of 2004" lists either. Instead, for its "Best Film" nominees, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association chose to honor a movie about a kindly abortionist ("Vera Drake"), a sex researcher ("Kinsey") and euthanasia ("The Sea Inside.") No wonder then that mainstream America feels totally out of touch with Hollywood. And what about the producers, directors, actors and writers with conservative beliefs who live and work in the belly of the beast? During the recent national elections, being a conservative in Hollywood was like being a communist during the McCarthy hearings. Now, however, the braver ones are fighting back. Perhaps emboldened by the election of Governor Schwarzenegger (search) and President Bush's reelection, conservatives now have their own film festivals and they can give as good as they get: Young movie maker, Evan Maloney is already being called a "Conservative Michael Moore" as he shadows the left wing icon with his microphone and video camera.

What Hollywood does or doesn't do about the "Passion" is irrelevant.

Mel Gibson has made a piece of work that will still be a classic when all of the films listed for "Best of 2004" are gone and forgotten.

John Gibson stated that the poll Fox News conducted showed Hollywood was very much out of touch with their viewers values. I am sure they are doing just fine with Al Jazeera.

I have wondered how Hollywood has any time to produce movies. It seems like these wealthy dolts are always inventing some new awards ceremony no matter how boguss it is. These people are double-jointed, i.e, able to heartily slap their own back without hurting themself.

That's simply not true. Kinsey was a fabricator, a perverted Sado Machinist and encouraged the molestation of children. I suggest everyone here go to Concerned Women For America's website and look up the truth about Kinsey.

This is the reason that, for the most part, my family has quit going to the movie theatre or renting movies.

The only movies we saw last year were TPoTC, The Incredibles, and Polar Express.

Polar Express struck me as a child indoctrination movie, as the line that stood out to me was when the conductor (voice of Tom Hanks) told the little boy, "It doesn't matter where the train is going, only that you get on." Whew!

I don't have any children but my liberal wife is always trying to drag me out to the movies.

I no longer have any interest in Hollywood due to their hidden agenda of political correctness and loathing of differing views that interfere with their indoctrination.

The treatment of Elia Kazan when he received his lifetime achievement award opened my eyes of just how left wing Hollywood is.

Thanks for the bit on Kazan. I didn't know who he was and just got done reading some short biographies. I'll have to agree with you that he was a communist cheerleader. That figures, in light of the nature of Hollywood.

Elia Kazan was a great movie writer and director. He belonged to the Communist Party of the USA for about 2 years during the 1930s when he was involved with a theater group. He quit because they were strong arming him to make Red Propaganda and he was not going to knuckle under. He stood up to them all of his life although he was an old fashion ( patriotic) Liberal as well. The Hollywood left hated him because he had their number for over 50 years.
