His standard day involved working with a unit of the Iraqi National Guard to go out on patrols. He says the ones who believe in a free Iraq are among the bravest men he has ever worked with. "They don't even look for cover when the shooting starts," he says. "They just shoot it out until either they or the bad guys are dead." Out of the ten best ones in the unit, all ten have been murdered by the terrorists.

"Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen: all know how to die."
-Winston Churchill

Valor and freedom, yes, but I would like it better if these ten best men in the ING unit had showed some common sense, found cover, and then shot it out until the bad guys were dead. Then, God willing, these 10 good men would be around to see their country Move forward into its new day.

Don't get me wrong, I greatly respect the action these men took, but it seems so much that these men can only think to fight and die for freedom. I guess it hasn't occurred to them yet that the best thing to do is fight and live for freedom.

I guess the best summary of what I'm trying to express is this:
"The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his." -George S. Patton

You may be right, but I've got to admit I can't fathom what they have endured. Like you, I respect their willingness to lay down their lives for their countrymen.
