Train, SUV collide at 12th Street crossing
A 16-year-old boy was slightly injured Friday night when the Ford Explorer he was driving struck a train at the railroad crossing on 12th Street near Meighan Boulevard.
It appears the SUV struck the train about midway in the line of about a dozen rail cars as the westbound train crossed through the intersection, said Gadsden, Alabama Fire Department Commander Tony Franklin.
The SUV hung on the train and was dragged about 150 feet from the intersection, Franklin said.
The boy was able to get out of the SUV, which caught fire and was pinned underneath a tanker car.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze before it spread, but the SUV was demolished, Franklin said.
The boy was taken to a local hospital, apparently suffering from a sprained wrist.
Now they're attacking trains, for no apparent reason.
Maybe there should be a law?
Perhaps our government will fund an education program of some type, perhaps featuring a mascot or something similiar, to help educate our children about these things.
It appears that the train was able to fight back this time, but for how long?
At least it was able to hang on a while before being demolished.
Well, if one wants to be pedantic, an SUV is a light truck, not a car :) SUV takes up less space.

Good grief! First they just attacked, then they stepped up to arson, now it's a nightmare combination; leap onto another moving vehicle like a rabid hyena, clamp down and ignite. Horrific.
All trains should be equiped with an "SUV catcher" on the front of the locomotive.
So much for SUV's being unsafe.
The kid runs an SUV into a train, is dragged for 150 and pinned underneath a tank car. The SUV then catches fire and burns for 10 minutes before the FD can put it out. The car is then extricated from under the tank car, and the boy is extricated.
He suffers a sprained wrist.
Anybody want to wager how he would have fared in a Yugo?
This is obviouly a case of a SUV turned terrorist. It committed suicide trying to destroy the train as a symbol of SUV hating liberals. We must be on guard for other terrorist SUVs. Next they will be trying to take down buildings!-
