The real problem is that it used to be $100,000 for a year or two, then $50,000 for a six months of hospice, then a $10,000 funeral. That's barely affordable but not out of the ballpark for society. Now it's $25,000 a year in drugs indefinitely, plus hospitalization costs off and on, plus the $250,000 in critical care costs as the patient gets closer to death. This is not affordable in the long run, as fewer healthies will have to more and more sickies on top of the demographics problems in SS and medicare. In short, their venal and selfish behavior is not sustainable.
