If you've never listened to Kerry Livgren, his stuff is just amazing. Even 22 years later it holds up very well. Second Chapter of Acts was also a favorite. Matthew Ward of 2nd Ch. put out at least one solo album,"ToWard Eternity" (yes he was punning his own name!)which had a couple of decent cuts on it.
Larry Norman is an "oldie' who comes to mind - "Stranger in a Strange Land" was considered his definitive album, but he also had many others. A protege that Larry "discovered" is Randy Stonehill, another great songwriter/singer and pretty fair guitar player, one of his best known songs is "Shut de Do', Keep Out de Debbil"...
For more awesome guitar playing talent, Phil Keaggy is recommended. "Master and Musician" is an Olllllld album, (originally recorded in 1978) but good work is good work!
Another oldie that is hard to find - "ArkAngel". Their first and I think only album came out in about '80 or '81, and redefined eclectic rock. Many of the group members were working in a band called 'RadioHalo' a few years back - leader of the band is Kemper Crabb...they put out at least one cd, entitled "Illumination"
Long ago and far away, there was a guy named Terry Taylor and a band called "Daniel Amos" who put out an album of C&W influenced rock and blues entitled "Shotgun Angel"; later on they came out with "Horrendous Disc", and then "Alarma", which were actually new wave/surf punk influenced. They shortened their name to "D.A.", (sort of like "The Resurrection Band" became "Rez") and put out cd's like "Kalhoun".
Guess that's enough digging in the oldies bin for now...
