AIDs in the US seems to be a problem primarily for intravenous drug users and Gays. In Africa, it is moslty a heterosexual disease, often spread by truck drivers and prostitutes. I've been told that this may in part be to the nature of the sex the women must endure, which means it's often done in was that are resulting in tears and bleeding for the women. Gay sex apparently due to design reasons leads to the same problem of tearing and bleeding. I may be wrong on some of this, but that's the way I understand it.

Another reason for the spread of AIDS in Africa is the state of the hospitals in many less developed areas. The needles and other instruments are used for more than one patient without being cleaned or sterilized between uses, so that increases the spread of the disease.
