Churchill misquoted in article on UH speech (did not acknowledge he's not an Indian)
Honolulu Star-Bulletin ^ | 2/24/05

The Honolulu Star-Bulletin, in an article yesterday, incorrectly quoted University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill as admitting that he was not American Indian.

The story about Churchill's Tuesday night speech at the University of Hawaii-Manoa said the professor noted that his "white Republican" critics were asking, "Is he an Indian? Do we really care?"

"Let's cut to the chase, I'm not," the quote in yesterday's paper continued.

But a review of video and audio tapes of the speech shows that Churchill actually said: "Is he an Indian?

"We really care. We're trying to protect the rights of Indians to divine for themselves, say this circle of flies in the form of white reporters circling a manure pile like it's of all consequential importance.

"Cut to the chase on that."

Churchill went on to say that he is an associate member of the Keetoowah tribe and that associates are enrolled in the band after their genealogy has been vetted by the enrollment office. He said that he is less than one-quarter Indian, so he does not qualify to be a full member.

The issue of whether Churchill has Indian blood is part of the national debate over the controversial professor who gained notoriety for comparing some Sept. 11, 2001, victims to Nazis.

Do I remember correctly that Churchill's is an honorary membership category granted to anyone, regardless of heritage, including Bill Clinton? And that the tribe itself denies that he is a member?

I have known a few people in my life who would make up lies on the spot to suit the occasion. But none made it to tenured professor.

What bothers me more than that this hate-filled lunatic is abroad on college campuses is that there are a body of people who applaud and lap up this crapola.

But one made it to President, and his wife would like to try in 2008.

He said that he is less than one-quarter Indian,

Practically everyone I know is less than one-quarter Indian, so therefore we all must be Indian.

But that doesn't change the fact that he IS NOT. Tribes have come forth to say he is not a member but not a single tribe has come forth to claim him as one of their own. Genealogists working on it can find to no Native American ancestor. He is a fraud and an intellectual midget.

We all know of one who was AG and governor of Arkansas and then President of the US. We also know of at least one sitting Senator from New York who qualifies.

Seems like I read somewhere that in order to claim membership in a tribe to get benefits (like a share in the Oklahoma oil leases) you only have to be 1/16th Native American.

Anyone have the straight skinny on that?

Iron Eyes Cody was born Espera DeCorti on 3 April 1904 in the small town of Kaplan, Louisiana. He was the son of Francesca Salpietra and Antonio DeCorti, immigrant from Sicily. (whoa.)

Swiss/German is whiter than white.

Churchhill takes a job set aside for a minority, then when discovered wants minorities to stand up him.

Something like killing your parents and wanting sympathy from the court 'cause you're an orphan.

If I want to steal a minority job, and I can prove I "hate" white people, will the indians play the fool for me? Churchill is playing 'em all. What a hoot.

I just wish he'd change his surname. He isn't fit to have the same family name as dear old Winston.
