The item up for auction now is a very striking and impressive serigraph/lithograph by renowned Native American author and artist, Ward Churchill ( Keetoowah Band Cherokee). Churchill is Professor Emeritus of Ethnic Studies at the University of Colorado, and is the Coordinator of American Indian Studies at the same institution. He is also Associate Director of the Center for Studies of Ethnicity and Race in America and Co-Director of the Colorado Chapter of the American Indian Movement. Additionally he is a member of the American Indian Anti-Defamation Council and the author of many books and scholarly publications. An accomplished artist in his own right, the work up for auction now is entitled "Winter Attack". It measures 27" wide by 20" tall and is very nicely framed. Signed by the artist, lower right, it is marked "A.P." for Artists Proof. The image is laid on rag paper and the maker's watermark is embossed in the lower right corner. This piece is in excellent conditon with no foxing, wrinkling or damage of any kind. It was purchased at a prestigious gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico many years ago and has been well cared for in a prominent art collection in the Denver, Colorado area. The image is a very stark and compelling one that evokes a sense of isolation and resignation at the same time, yet is elegant. One of the finer pieces by this controversial, but important artist, it would be the perfect addition to the Native American or Ethnic art collection.
