Mr. Bush's low-key shellacking of France's crook in chief, Jacques Chirac, signals the political defeat of "Old Europe" on the issue of Iraq. On Monday, before a state dinner in Belgium, a reporter asked Mr. Bush if he would invite Mr. Chirac to his Texas ranch. Mr. Bush quipped, "I'm looking for a good cowboy." Remember, "cowboy" is Euro-snob code for "pathological American suffering from hyper-power and gigantisme militaire."

Low-key is right, I missed the whole darn shellacking. When did it occur?
The brush was dipped in the Iraq election, taken to Europe by Condoleeza who signaled a "we will let you save face" offer, and the shellac was applied by W when he quietly got the European leadership to jump into his boat.
There hasn't been a lot of noise over the whole thing but the next six months are going to be FAR different than the last six months.
Bush is eating their lunch.
Some people love the President because they think he is doing the right thing and is a stalwart defender of freedom. Others are going to come to love the President because people just love a winner.
My prediction: Presidential approval ratings in the mid-70s by November 2006, leading to an Democrat electoral debacle in the House and Senate the likes we have not seen since 1994. In a couple of years time, the supermajority requirement of the cloture rule in the US Senate could be irrelevant...
Bring that silly frenchman down to the ranch President Bush and teach him some "rope-a-dope".......
