You're right, the voters elected this guy and he represents them. Personally, I would want someone that the people can understand to represent me. Now that is not racist, that is just desiring someone who has the common courtesy to learn the language so that one can communicate effectively. That thick of an accent and stumbling over proper wording is just plain distracting and hurts the message.

Before you flame me, you should know that I came close to marrying a beautiful Vietnamese woman I dated for years and I have worked for nearly 20 years with a predominantly minority workforce. One can't do that if one is a racist.

We used to have a mayor that spoke great english but did'nt do much else! IMHO. I have had personal converstions with him on the phone. Never had any problem understanding him and he did great answering my concerns.
