Just caught up on that development.

I just stated in another thread that I expect the Liberals to respond to these devlopments by praising Assad for his ability to bring the world together! LOL

Your tax dollars at work, I suspect. We haven't heard anything from Special Forces in a while...

If so, I haven't seen any better use for my tax dollar in a while. However, it may just be that the print media there (papers, magazines, etc.) is just as fed up as the common people and they're generating this on their own. Remember, Lebanon is not a bombed out husk of a country any more.

In that photo with the older woman, I believe they are Lebanese troops.

Interesting. They have M-16s and American uniforms (or very similar).

As best I can piece together from news reports, the Syrian army has stayed far away from the protests. Lebanese police and army units are supposedly those we see in the photos of the protests.

"Syria should withdraw from Lebanon, but we all have to make sure that this withdrawal does not violate the very fragile balance which we still have in Lebanon, which is a very difficult country ethnically,"

Which was functioning fairly well until the Jordanians chased the PLO out of their country and into Lebanon. There they upset the stability, did the bid of the Syrians and Iranians, and generally messed up a pretty nice place. The PLO, made up of Egyptians and Jordanians for the most part, is the root of much of modern day Islamic terrorism.
