Again, this does not mean that I advocate bureaucrats in every bedroom or cameras monitoring our activity 24/7 (G-d doesn't need cameras!). In fact, Halakhically it is quite difficult to prosecute someone for a sin, especially a capital offense. But even though the laws are not "enforceable," it is nevertheless society's (the state's) obligation to have those laws.

Actually, the best reason to have such laws is not as an excuse to go into people's bedrooms to find malefactors, but to keep bedroom activities from being performed blatantly in the street--the "Gay Pride" parades are prime examples.

Do you mean "goal" or predetermined fate. Which do YOU believe?

I think it is good, for you, to have spent so much time and devoted so much thought, to the key question of mankind. However, considering its magnitude and timelessness, surely you don't think you are the first to muse upon it nor are you, I hope, convinced that you have or can solve it. It is a great discussion topic but no more than that, as all our arguments quickly bump into apparent paradoxes and seeming contradictions.

To insist on consistency while considering every possible circumstance can only lead to circular logic eventually. These apparent paradoxes and seeming contradictions have been highlighted throughout the history of philosophical thought. You call these hypocrisies but they are necessary distinctions we make in order to live among our equally imperpect fellow humans.

This isn't a libertarian forum, although there are several libertarians who post here. That is good for you, since you don't seem to be one.

The only people who oppose legislating morality and are logically consistent are anarchists. Every law is the legislation of someone's idea of what is right, or in other words, morality. Even the Constitution is the legislation of morality. What we hold to be rights are based, not in objective fact, but in our beliefs on the ideal nature of government. I say this because supposedly inalienable rights are violated every day, by both legal and illegal actions.

The true issue is not whether government can legislate morality, but who is authorized to do so, and how much of such legislation is acceptable, under our form of government. With the few exceptions listed in the Constitution, the states were allowed to resolve those issues. As the federal government usurped these powers, it reduced the people's influence on what is and is not legislated. That, I believe, is the underlying cause of this dilemma.

Listen, I sympathize with you. Their arguments are always without merit. Take this short discussion that I recently had with a liberal about public education:

ME: Public Education is one experiment that's failed. The cost continues to rise while performance continues to fall. Minorities seem to be hit the hardest. I recently read that 60% of the black children that were studied had made it to the 8th grade and lacked BASIC reading skills. This is an outrage. We have to do something about public education soon.

LIBERAL NUT: You're obviously a racist. Try again idiot.

ME: What? I'm talking about public education and the miserable job the public schools are doing when it comes to educating our kids. I don't know where you came up with the idea that I'm a racist. You've been defending the public school system, so I want to talk about education.

LIBERAL NUT: I want to talk about the white sheets hanging in your closet. Face it, you're a f**king bigot.

ME: Why can't stick to the matter at hand? Education?

LIBERAL NUT: The matter at hand? Don't talk to me about the matter at hand! Education will be irrelevant when your beloved chimp is finished destroying America! You f**king fascist!
