Roseville Artist Is Free Man, For Now
A Macomb County Circuit Court judge ruled Friday that a Roseville artist can stay out of jail while making his appeal, Local 4 reported.
Edward "Gonzo" Stross painted a mural on the side of a Roseville studio he owns displaying a woman's bare breasts and the word "love," which was ruled in violation of a city ordinance, according to reports.
Stross' attorney and the American Civil Liberties Union apparently convinced the judge that Stross could remain a free man while they appeal the ordinance violation.
Stross was sentenced to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine, but is appealing his conviction after he repainted the mural to cover the woman's breasts.
"It was quite assured that what I was doing was in compliance and soon it will be proven," Stross said.
Stross will remain free while the judge considers the artist's bond request, the station reported.
The ACLU is arguing that the sign ordinance violates Stross' freedom of expression.
Conservatives should fear breats less. Breasts are nice.
Hey, he's an 'Artist' and can display whatever he wants wherever he wants. The rest of us unenlightened be damned! /sarc
Nobody's gonna' ping gonzo?
Yo, gonzo ... over here ... we found out about cha'.
Roseville, MI is not the kind of town in SE MI to have amateurs painting murals on the exterior walls of buildings. Roseville is not "Fashionable" Ferndale or Royal Oak. Maybe he ( Gonzo) could take his "thang" a little further north to Mt. Clemens.
/sarc? Maybe sarcasm to you. But I ask, whose property is it. What joint contractual arrangements are in place with neighbors? Assuming none, then let the unenlightened be damned. No sarcasm implied.
I'm as supportive of an individual's right to own and use property uncontrolled by the Gov't interference. However, with that right comes the individual's obligation to exercise it in a responsible way. Something like 'Your right to wave your fist ends where my nose starts' comes to mind.
As a matter of difference, unlike you, I say that the "right to wave your fist ends" well before "where my nose starts."
Thanks, Frank! It wasn't me, but I like bare breasts - on women, that is...
The last time I tried to depict them, it looked like two watermelons on Bigfoot! My three daughters informed me that I wasn't Jackson Pollack, and I should destroy it.
I told them that if I wanted to 'create' like Jackson Pollack, I would get a Very-Pistol, load it with paint-bottles, and fire it at a sheet of plywood. The result would be the same!
There are more verses, but this might get me kicked off. FRegards, y'all............gonzo
good to see you again.
