When 'Tolerance' Backfires
World Net daily ^ | 3-5-2005 | William J. Federer

How did America go from Pilgrims seeking freedom to express their Judeo-Christian beliefs to today's discrimination against those very beliefs in the name of tolerance?

The journey of the evolution of tolerance began in England. When Henry VIII's divorce was not recognized by the pope, he decided to be his own "pope" of the Church of England and eventually had six wives, their fates being divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived.

His advisers suggested that to solidify his break with Rome, he should replace the Latin Bible with an English Bible so people there would look to England for their spiritual heritage. Henry did so, but something unexpected happened – people began to read the Bible and compare what was written in it to the king divorcing and beheading his wives.

This group wanted to purify the Church of England, resulting in their nickname, "Puritans."

we are NOT a democracy. we are a republic. the founders REJECTED the idea of being a democracy. they said the life of all democracies in history had been nasty, brutal, and short, to borrow a phrase from another subject.

Yeah, I've wondered if God didn't say regarding certain cults 'Destroy Them Utterly, Leave No One Left Alive" because they were so foul that they really would corrupt the Israelis if they mingled with them. And God didn't say that about all of the groups the Izzies encountered. I don't call them the Jews because there were 12 tribes of which the Judahites were only one.

Behold, therefore I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and will deliver thee for a spoil to the heathen; and I will cut thee off from the people, and I will cause thee to perish out of the countries: I will destroy thee; and thou shalt know that I [am] the LORD.

Ezekiel 25:7

How about if the Church of the Creator want to have a sunrise service and burn a cross?

If a sufficient majority of Americans ever decide that that particular law (polygamy) needs to be changed, it can be- that's democracy.

NO! All it takes is Nine Perverts in Black Robes to decide that that law needs to be changed, and they are perilously close to doing it. In fact I would not bet against it happening, and happening very soon, within the next year.

And as much as I love and treasure the Constitution, the will of the people is NOT subservient to it!!

The will of the people is subservient to the Constitution because they must abide by the provisions of the Constitution in order to amend it. It takes a two thirds majority of the states.

Of course that's in theory. In practice, there are the "living document" types who think they can water the Constitution and it will grow branches.

Tell that to the Yankees who make bigoted jokes towards Southerners.

If a Christian is denied a job because of religion, they have the same remedies under law that a Jew, Muslim, Buddhist or Wiccan has in the same circumstance.

I think this goes to the heart of the problem. We once had the right of free association. We could choose who we hired and allowed into our organizations. We no longer have that right. And this is where "tolerance" has gone bad. It is state-enforced tolerance.

We should have the right to discriminate. Without the right to be separate from others, Christians will disappear.

Yes. If they allow gay marriage, there is no logical reason why polygamy could remain illegal. Or incest for that matter.

After all, having hundreds of sexual partners is at least as destructive as having sex with a relative. How can they allow sodomy but ban incest?

If Jesus needs someone dead he can full well take care of the issue without some nut job professing to be a Christian engaging in murder.
What does Christ tell us to do in regard to our enemies?
He damn sure doesn't call for a Muslim like Holy war.
Get some help man.

"Ah, but to those "soldiers of the faith" it wouldn't be murder-- it would be a justified killing, as in bombing an abortion clinic."

Was that the part you responded to?

Sorry, I didn't make that entirely clear. I don't believe in bombing abortion clinics.

I believe... I believe...

I believe I'll have another beer.

Oliver Cromwell decreed tolerance for everyone except Socinians and Roman Catholics. Even Jews were free to practice their religion. For the mid-1600s that was fairly tolerant, if you ask me. Far more tolerant than any Roman Catholic country of the same period.

You may want to live in a world of three bathrooms, pal, but the rest of us don't.

It seems we have that now. Homosexuals and transsexuals are demanding to have separate facilities. Retail establishments are being forced to hire transvestites to work with customers.

Until then, there will be no end to the insane demands put upon us. Day-care centers will be required to hire homosexuals. Child molesters will be raised to the same status as homosexuals. Your church will be required to hire Muslims or atheists.

This madness will only end when we get our rights back. Things are much worse than they were. The only solution is to allow people the right to choose their associates, their customers and employees using whatever criteria they deem appropriate.

Those who have power consolidate it, depriving their rivals of its availability and control them in the process. This has always been the status quo. Those who have power always abuse it, and those who have no power are abused. If anyone thinks things would be better if the ones without the power manage to take it away you are sadly mistaken, with a change in power structure what also comes is vendettas against the former leaders. Groups like the ACLU and the radical left would have no mercy on us if they had the opportunity. The more we allow ourselves to be sucked into feeling sorry for the scourges of our society and those who do whatever they can to destroy the social structure of this country, the closer we are to persecution ourselves.

I was in a building with three bathrooms the other day. Men's room, Ladies' room, and a shared bathroom which was handicap accessible and had the changing table in it.
Neat design, and probably more efficient than making both the men's and ladies' rooms handicap accessible.
That third bathroom didn't frighten or upset me in the least.

Seriously, there's this poor misguided soul at work who by the time the psychiatrists got done with him was wearing women's clothes and calling himself "Stacey." (not the real name.)
The poor sonofagun actually had death threats, and they had to lock up one bathroom and give "Stacey" the key. A third bathroom is probably a necessity, since s/he is unwelcome in either the men's or ladies' rooms.
Why should I have hatred or fear toward this poor deluded soul?
