Good fella - and clearly on the fastrack. I remember being surprised to see him speak early one eve at the RNC and said to myself 'he must be making a lot of friends.'

Do you think this is a crumb thrown Harry Reid's way in order to get him to cooperate more on the judicial nominees?

Not really. In fact, I think that Harry Reid's support for Brian Sandoval (a Republican) is motivated by two things:

1.) He can point to his support for Sandoval as evidence that he's not a reflexive obstructionist.

2.) He will never have to worry about Sandoval running against him in any future reelection campaigns.

I don't know much about John Ensign, but I see he spoke out for Negroponte recently, which means he isn't afraid of taking a conservative position.

Is this candidate perhaps a compromise? Not too liberal?

Sandoval was on the fast track, but Harry Reid supported the nomination not because he has moderated, but he wanted to derail Sandoval from the fast track.
Harry has been working overtime to clear the Democrat and Republican paths for his son, Rory, to ascend to his Senate seat when he is ready to step down. Brian Sandoval was viewed as a huge threat -- telegenic, articulate, Hispanic. Rory would not have stood much of a chance, even with all of Harry's money and power behind him.

I voted for Sandoval - good guy, best as I can tell.

The NV GOP needs to cultivate someone to take that Senate Seat. The state GOP seemed to roll over and play dead in 2004, which was a shame.

'Tis a shame, if I were in charge of the GOP in this state I would have seen to it that Harry Reid were unemployed right now.

Actually, those who have followed his career have been amused by the "credit" he gets for being "Hispanic." I don't recall the facts, but I don't know if his name was the result of an adoption, or name change, but he is as culturally Hispanic (I'm not even sure if he speaks a word of Spanish) as a Minneapolis Taco Bell.
