A tight race in L.A., but does anyone care? In battle for mayor, not much interest

This is NOT true. He did NOT support either V or Hahn, he supported a third candidate, I think who was also a Republican, I can't think of his name.

Yes, it IS true. You really need to check your facts before posting such inaccuracies. As I said before, he endorsed Villaraigosa against Hahn. He first endorsed Soboroff. He then endorsed Villaraigosa in the runoffs.

Los Angeles Magazine, 2003:

In the mayoral race, Republican incumbent Richard Riordan endorsed Villaraigosa. So did billionaire Eli Broad, as well as Governor Gray Davis and most of the other top elected Democrats. After he led the primary field it looked as if Villaraigosa, with establishment backing, would be the city's first Latino elected mayor since the 19th century Before the general election, however, Hahn--also a Democrat--picked up the support of prominent San Fernando Valley moderates and conservatives. He aired ads attacking Villaraigosa for signing a clemency request on behalf of drug dealer Carlos Vignali, the son of a friend.

Hahn won with 54 percent, the edge provided almost entirely by the West Valley and by black voters in South Los Angeles loyal to his family since his father, legendary supervisor Kenneth Hahn, represented the area.

Los Angeles Times, February 11, 2005
Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan threw his support behind mayoral hopeful Bob Hertzberg on Thursday, offering a credibility boost to the little-known Sherman Oaks lawyer who hopes to rebuild Riordan's political coalition.

The endorsement came a day after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced his support for Hertzberg's call to break apart the Los Angeles Unified School District.

(snip)

Riordan's decision was not entirely a surprise; his wife, Nancy Daly Riordan, is a co-chair of Hertzberg's campaign. But his move was a public spurning of Antonio Villaraigosa, whom he endorsed in the 2001 runoff with James K. Hahn.

I stand corrected. Please accept my apologies.

Whom did Riordan support before the runoff? That is what I was remembering.

I did not realize that in the runoff between Hahn and V. he supported the latter.

Please see my post to you:

"He first endorsed Soboroff."

Thanks! That's what I remembered, except for the name.

I had no idea he endorsed Villaraigosa in the runoff. In retrospect it makes me wonder why I wasn't aware of it, but I have no idea.
