They are all Democrats. In my assessment, Herzberg is the lesser of the three evils, while Villaraigosa is the worst -- being the worst leftist, and Hahn is somewhere in the middle.

But I was surprised to find a couple of messages on my answering machines from someone claiming to Republican leader (the name was not clear on the message) strongly advocating against Herberg. So what do they want, elect a real leftist, by electing Villaraigosa?!

I wonder why we didn't have a strong moderate Republican running, someone similar to Richard Riordan -- why are Republicans abandoning Los Angeles to the Democrats?

Here's a link to Hertzberg's resume that also shows him as a member of the board of directors of Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (Maldef). He also campaigned for Villaraigosa and was his roommate. As assemblyman, he employed Cruz Bustamante's brother. A vote for Hertzberg is a vote for Villaraigosa in disguise.
