Here you go:

Gaucho Rodizio in Lighthouse Point

Porcao in Miami

Chima in Fort Lauderdale

I think Gaucho is the best North of Miami and South of Orlando.

Porcao is the ultimate.

Chima is good, but more expensive and they don't have the "Salsa De Maracuja" that I love so much for the Salmon.

The best cuts, if you're interested, are "Picanha" and "Alcatra" which are rump steak and sirloin respectively.

Everything else is good but ask for those two first.

Oh and "exotic" salad bars are more than enough for people who don't go for the meat.

Finally, try a "Caipirinha". The "recommended beverage" of Caipirabob. ; )

Thanks you. I have to travel to Miami every three months to the medical center. My husband and I are always keeping an eye out for new places to eat. This is a great selection.

Sopapillas already cooked?

They're always deep-fried and usually served piping hot as a desert. They puff up when fried & are hollow in the center...tear into them & drizzle w/ honey is the traditional way to eat them.

But we found a little restaurant in Pagosa Springs, CO that serves them stuffed w/ meat and smothered w/ chile sauce, your choice of red or green. Been years since I had one, but as I recall they're heaped w/ lettuce, tomato, sour cream. Name of the restaurant is/ was The Elkhorn...old time cafe on the main drag. Nothing fancy but the food was excellent. I don't have any idea if the place is still there or not.

I really do recommend that you try Porcao when you're down there. The selection is phenomenal and the quality is superb. One last thing I recommend: Ask if they can serve you quiejo frito. They grill white cheese on an iron griddle in bacon fat ( Brasilians simply do not believe in cholesterol.) for the ultimate decadence in your culinary experience.

Maybe these markets will offer tasty Cuban-style sandwiches?

Isn't that just pulled BBQ pork with cinnamon? Or is there something more to it?

Cuban sandiches are to sandwiches what Nagasaki is to backyard barbecues.

oooo--these sound yummy. And thank you for pointing me to a recipe. I thought about googling up a recipe but wanted some more info so's I know I'd found the Real Deal. BTW, the recipe mentions that mayo & mustard aren't exactly traditional. What dressings do you use/ prefer?

My favorite cuisine is far from Spanish cuisine. Give me some Chinese roasted duck & noodle soup or some Vietnamese pho beef soup with raw beef slices which get cooked from the heat of the broth. At home my field of expertise is split pea soup.

They're deep fried? They sound delicious. I think I'm going to buy a bag, but at the moment I'm lacking the equipment for deep frying. I'll improvise, though. I'm thinking they would be great stuffed with chopped meat and ranchero cheese, onions and tomatoes :)

Hey, thanks for letting me know how they're supposed to be cooked :)

TY Wormwood for the cuban sandwich link on #34. I've never lived anywhere but SoCal, so I've never heard of Cuban sandwiches before. That's a lot of food!

I've met Cuban-Americans though, and you're right. We can all learn a lot from other cultures. Black Americans have been sold a nasty bill of goods. They are allowing others to judge them by the color of their skin, ultimately negating Dr. King's sacrifice. He wasn't perfect, but his "I Have a Dream" speech was brilliant and inspiring. Why are they allowing themselves to be treated differently, when there is no real difference between them and any other American?

The old folks know better, but the younger generation quit listening to them years ago. When I attended community college, there was a young black professor teaching a class I was in. It was pretty casual, but at our Christmas party, one of the black girls asked this man if he was someone's baby daddy. Eventually all the black women kind of ganged up on him, as if being responsible and not having kids out of wedlock was some kind of crime. He later remarked to me that he only dated white women for precisely that reason.

Another case in point: I think it was LAPD who shot a 13 yr old to death. The boy had stolen a car, and backed up into the patrol car, trying to flee. The cops shot him, and I'm sure they didn't have a clue as to how young this thief was. Well everyone in the community stood up and howled about police brutality. Why didn't they take that anger, and howl at the parents of this child? If they want better things and a better life, they need to change the attitude. Bill Cosby is another person who is trying to wake people up. His message cuts across racial lines to American parents in general. He's not perfect either, but he's still right.

I'd better shut up now, because this could turn into a rant ;)
