If I'm not mistaken, this has been going on for a long time. Clearly, it flows from the overwhelming sense of entitlement that comes from owning slaves and the Arab Muslim tradition of brutalising others for its own sake. Very sad.
Also has something to do with the absence of acceptable open (or hidden) male/female relationships in Muslim society. You'll notice it happens in prisons as well.
