Walt Disney is to promote its $100 million adaptation of C S Lewis's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as a "Passion of the Christ for kids" in an attempt to secure worldwide Christian support for the film.
Disney executives have organised private meetings with several church groups in America to emphasise the themes of Christian redemption and sacrifice contained in the film, which will open in December with an all-star cast.
They have also hired a public relations company to market the film directly to Christian groups to ensure that the powerful evangelical movement, which is particularly strong in America, is happy with the content.
The film, which stars the British actors Tilda Swinton, who will play the White Witch, and Brian Cox, who will provide the voice of Aslan the lion, will be the first in a series of Disney blockbusters inspired by the seven books in the Narnia series, whose author was known for his strong Christian beliefs.

And, I chose to talk about the Disney factor. That IS my right, you know. I CAN discuss any part of it that I want. You, for sure, aren't the arbiter of what I choose to discuss.
Don't waste your time, I think that starfish may be one of those types that watches everything from Disney frame by frame, forward and backward to find something to complain about.
Some think that anything from Disney is inherently evil and will rot your soul.
I prefer to watch movies first for myself, then decide if my daughter should see it. Works out pretty well for me, so far.
Naruto? Less thought provoking that Rurouni Kenshin?
Rurouni Kenshin was incredibly simplistic, filled with generic, one-note characters.
With Naruto, almost every character is given depth with a backstory that works with the series main themes one way or another.
She's not a lesbian, she's married to a man.
are we SURE he was? He is dead and has no way to defend himself.
Respectfully, I think the point is that disney has learned the lesson of "The Passion" and is now trying to tap into that enormous untapped audience market.
You may feel free to talk about the kid's movie about the Passion that Disney is not making.
Well, she's going to wait a long time for that Disney remake of the Passion movie.

Really? Well, I don't see it that way. Possibly because I've read the manga of Rurouni Kenshin which is deeper than the anime. But I don't care about the third cousin of the main character's sister's boyfriend, whether he had a tragic childhood (which is what all the backstories I saw seemed to be) in a show. I care about the main focus and the philosophy of a show. That's why I love Fullmetal Alchemist; it's about life and death and sacrifice, themes I love. Naruto... well, maybe if I'd watched it from the beginning, or if it appealed to me at all, I would see something worthwhile there.
But "de gustibus non disput", as they say.
And since Dustin Hoffman PLAYED a woman in Tootsie, he must actually BE a woman...
I've never read the Kenshin manga, but I've seen anything other than paper-thin philosophy from the show.
What you're missing is that Naruto's main philosophy is echoed in the character's back stories. For example, one of the shows main themes is loneliness. This is a reoccurring theme in Naruto's, Sasuke's, and Garaa's back stories, with each character's story being a different take on it. So is defining your own fate- this one is worked into half of the back stories, and protecting people who are important to you. The themes are worked into every character's back story before eventually coming out in the main storyline of the series. Each of the series main characters represents some variation of one of the show's themes. The only other anime on your list that I could possibly say that for is Cowboy Bebop.
PS: Viz has already managed to screw up the manga.
Mmm, ok, but if I don't care whether any of the characters live or die or turn into frogs, then their struggles to define their fate aren't really meaningful...
I found the Kenshin-theme of redemption much more meaningful - the idea that to make up for a dark past, you have to give your life, not through suicide, but by atoning.
Viz is usually pretty good with the manga. Unless they changed the names (grr, pet peeve of mine, there's a manga I'd be shelling out the bucks for every two months if they weren't condescending idiots enough to rename the main characters) I don't get too bummed... Viz is Shonen Jump, right? I hate the way they've translated "Shinigami" in Bleach to "Soul Reaper". Bleah.
Tokyopop's the best manga-translators in general. They're taking such good care of Fruits Basket.
Well I found Naruto's characters much easier to identify with and care about than Kenshin's.
But Viz has basically made the dialog kind of annoying in places and really screwed up on the jitsu's names. They're really awkward and almost impossible to get used to.
I find that Viz has actually dropped in quality. I remember the first volumes of DB and DBZ they put out were pretty well done, but lately they've been reading more like Funimation's crap. Not to mention that they've reduced the size of the books. I prefered the larger ones.
I didn't think of that. Of course she probably married for show. I hear the acting community is very intolerant toward homosexuals... :-p
Grave of the fireflies is a masterpiece. I watched it on my computer dvd player and dropped my head on the keys and cried when it was done. The author wrote about his own experience in WW2.
Disney has never had the ability to come close to that film.
In making films Disney has as much credibility as the supermarket tabloids have in bringing you the news.....
