My guess is that there is some tremendous alumni pressure in regards to Churchill. Any knowledgeable Freepers out there who can speak about the alumni reaction to ward churchill?

She's the root of the problem. Now that the root has been pulled, the vine (Churchill and others) will die.
If only it were that simple.

University of Colorado President Betsy Hoffman said a professor who compared Sept. 11 victims to Nazis will not be fired if a review turns up only inflammatory comments, not misconduct.
Well, there certainly is misconduct!

Actually, she's probably on the Short List for World Bank President and needs the time off to lobby for that position. (I would put /sarc but, unfortunately, this scenario isn't out of the question)

About President HoffmanDr. Elizabeth "Betsy" Hoffman became the 20th president of the three-campus, more than 52,000-student University of Colorado System on Sept. 1, 2000. Hoffman holds doctorate degrees in economics and history and had an accomplished career as a faculty member and researcher prior to moving into academic administration. Several months after assuming the CU presidency, Hoffman played an extraordinarily pivotal role in obtaining one of the largest gifts ever to an American public university, $250 million to establish the CU Coleman Institute for Cognitive Disabilities.
In May 2001, Hoffman launched a visionary concept called CU Vision 2010 - a strategic road map for the university. She since has become known for her efforts to create a "University Without Walls" at CU.
She is also recognized for her extensive outreach activities throughout the state to ensure that CU is serving the needs of Colorado. She has taken a leadership role as a spokesperson for public higher education in the state and joined her colleagues in advocating and explaining public higher education's inherent value to Colorado's future health and vitality.
Last year she was selected by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as a member of the National Science Board. This summer, she was appointed to chair the National Science Board's Committee on Education and Human Resources.
Additional Academic Background
Prior to coming to CU, Hoffman served as Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
President Hoffman earned a PhD in history from the University of Pennsylvania and a second PhD in economics from the California Institute of Technology. She holds a BA in history from Smith College and an MA in history from the University of Pennsylvania.
Hoffman champions a culture of excellence at CU. She has developed Vision CU 2010a ten-year map for CUthat includes five key axioms:
- A University Without Walls - enabling a multidisciplinary effort across all four CU campuses.
- A Culture of Excellence - targeting areas for national prominence on each of the four campuses.
- Increasing resources and using them wisely - building significant endowments for scholarships, chairs and professorships.
- Diversity - bolstering diversity through aggressive recruitment and retention strategies for students, faculty and staff.
- An integrated infrastructure - using technology to enhance the quality of services to CU constituents across the entire system, and to expand online degree programs.

Unfortunately -- she is following the example of most Liberals...
First they raid the Easter Basket, consume the goodies, fill it with $hit, THEN LEAVE....
We really need to learn to keep them away from the goodies....and force "Academia" to be subject to the same marketplace consequences we all experience.

She was clinging to his right of free speech but never said anything about his fraudulent resume and plagiarism...any one of which would be basis for his firing outright immediately. Looks like we're gonna have to wait for the next shoe to drop. Tick Tock.
To: MKM1960
Could be she wanted to fire him and the board said no so she resigned in protest
