My husband,mother,mother-in-law and myself have all commented on this very thing(seeming early development in girls) all in the past month. I have a niece, a very lovely young woman who brought several friends to a family function this past summer. Those young ladies were as developed as any 20 year old I've ever been or seen. They were between 11 and 13. My first thought upon seeing them was, What is Jen doing with such older girls, when in the knowing she was older than all of them!

I've also noticed this during the warmer months, especially at the park, zoo, or movies these young girls are quite developed. And don't mind showing it either.

I had heard, after commenting to my mother and husband's mother, that there was some suspicion about it being caused by growth hormones in the food supply.

You know the thing is, that a lot of these girls are quite thin, except for their breasts, hips etc.

A few years ago, I happened to drive by my old highschool (I graduated a LONG time ago). I thought the place had been turned into a junior college. For a FACT girls were not so well-developed when I was younger.

My wife's cousin is 14 y/o. She has often been guessed as 21.

It may not be growth hormones in the food supply, but something is different....

I have felt concern for a Grandchild who had to be transferred to soy milk in early infancy because of intolerance to regular formula. Some believe that natural hormones in soy might effect children in some way later on. I actually asked her pediatrician about it and of course, she comforted me but she doesn't know. So many substances are put into our food, most in an attempt to make us healthier, but even too many vitamins or minerals might effect children. When my brother was an infant, my Mother refused to breast feed him because the belief was that "cow's milk" caused children to be taller adults. My view of child obesity is that children do not get enough exercise because of lifestyle changes and parental fear of letting them roam around without adult supervision..Computers and video games along with little space at home to play ball, ride bikes, etc., has an impact.

My aunt has two friends who are medical doctors. Their daughter started to develop very early. They took her to their pediatrician who asked them if they ate a lot of chicken. They said they did and the doctor said it could be the hormones they pump into the chicken.

Are the girls more developed or wearing clothes 3 sizes too small for their tubby bodies? When I was teaching jr high, I took my own little observaational pool and 25% of the girls were obese. I also know that girls wear super padded push up bras. Check out underwear at walmart when you are walking through. The undies are skimpy and the bras have 3 inches of padding in them.

I have heard that the hormones in chickens were messing up girls as well.

BTW, estrogen is also a fat hormone, and I wonder if the reason why girls are maturing earlier is because many are also fat.

One of my wife's friends freaked when the school sent her 9 year old daughter home because she had started her period. At 9 years old!

Hmm. Bet there is not any hormones in the calcium-enriched orange juice...

caused by growth hormones in the food supply.

There is little doubt in my mind they cause problems and in fact are assimilated by the consumers.

For anecdotal evidence, let's thinks about football players, 240 lbs was a lineman's size in 1975, 340 now. How does that happen?

For observational evidence, let's think about my dog. He was partially neutered and left with one testicle as the other had not dropped when he was neutered. Feed him normal milk and he humps the stuffed animal toy he has within minutes. Feed him organic milk and he does not. Why is that?

For concrete evidence, I was talking to a farmer near my rural Mississippi country place. He raised cattle and chickens. He told me the chickens he raises grow from a few ounces to 9 pounds in 60 days, the roosters up to 12-13 pounds and their legs are so brittle they will break easily.

Oh and the cows. He told me he used injectable ear pellets that really made them grown big and fast. He figured if one was good two or three were better but it made the cows head swell so he had to discontinue that.

And the best part, he told me the hormone laced ear pellets were being withdrawn from the market!!!!! He stocked up since he wouldn't be able to get anymore. I don't blame him, he was only trying to make a living but who withdrew them and why??? Have you seen any stories about that on the news?

I'm beginning to think that many have somewhat warped memories of their youth.

I have a distinct memory of going back to school at the start of seventh grade (I would have been 12) and being SHOCKED at the number of girls that...developed...over the summer.

A few years later, when I was 16, I was spending the night with some friends in North Carolina before summer camp started. They introduced me to Mary. We hit it off on sight, as only teenagers can do. They caught us necking that evening. My friends, laughing, accused me of robbing the cradle. I was incredulous, so I asked Mary how old she was and she sheepishly answered, "Twelve." Mary was blessed with, uh, assets, that would have been the pride of any Playmate.
