The financial services industry is terrified

Oooooh. I like the sound of that.

Some analysts estimate that more than one-fifth of Wal-Mart's customers have no bank accounts, which would be about twice the national rate, according to the Federal Reserve. "Wal-Mart National Bank" could bring these customers into the banking fold, offering them affordable bank accounts, credit cards and mortgage loans.

The evil WalMart strikes again. I wonder how many liberals have helped to give the poor access to banking services?

They have a pretty cheap group insurance plan they can buy into if they want.

One question also is why is health care so expensive that it is out of reach for so many? Its another example of a controlled industry where you have to know someone on the inside to even get into medical school. Then if you are one of the few who is allowed in, you have to jump through a regulatory and legal minefield just to treat people.

The answer isn't to reform retail which is one of the dwindling actually free areas of our economy. Its to go after all of these other fields, that with their protectionism and regulation are impovershing millions of people who aren't fortunate enough to be on the inside.

"They are not going to do anything about it, it would hurt the bottom line."

The free market has worked well for us. Nations that are protectionist or have gone socialist have fallen by the wayside as we have advanced.

As ironically it seems we are now going, more socialism and regulation by the day.

Uhm...no. Health care is not that expensive if you want it. I started looking into it when I was approached with a couple of contract jobs that didn't offer benefits. Plans for myself, my wife and 2 children ranged from $120 to $870 a month, depending on what type of coverage and deductibles. I figure in my present job they are taking out about $400 a month for our HMO...which I hate...I liked the old PPO I was on with my last employer and they only took $80 per paycheck...but I digress.

Point is, there is coverage out there if you want it. Emergency care is always provided...problem with the costs is not "the insiders" as you mentioned. It is the bloodsucking lawyers that have driven up the cost of malpractice insurance, automobile insurance, business insurance...pretty much ANY insurance you want to buy is astronomical because of over the top lawsuits and awards handed out by juries. But this is a whole other subject.

"Management of the front lines survives the scrutiny of the corporate offices with FLUFF."

If Walmart goes bureaucratic like 99% of corporate America, its growth will slow then stop.

"The setting may be small and etc. etc. etc. but Lee Scott is making millions"

Once you get to the top end, the difference between two men can mean billions of dollars for shareholders. If you want the top dog, you gotta pay more then your competition.

On the other hand ultimately the difference to your company between two people stocking shelves is small. Therefore the amount you pay either is just what people will do that work for.

Its tough, but its reality. Some ultra rich do deserve their millions, and because Walmart has doen so well, Lee Scott is one of them I believe.

"he couldn't even explain why one of his divisional vice presidents would send me relocation money from the Associates in Critical Need Trust Fund."

Delegation of powers. He runs a 260 billion dollar company, hes got bigger things to worry about then where a few thousand dollars went. That is why he has a hierarchy under him, who somewhere down the line do have to deal with those questions.

You gotta stop being so against your own company, and start thinking of the value you can add to them. No one in this world owes you anything, nor will they give you anything for nothing.

It's not as if Wal-Mart is hiring some illegal alien to carry the cash to Mexico on a burro.

I might pay extra for something like that.

I'll make five predictions for Wal-mart business by 2015. (1) The National Bank of Wal-Mart will surge and have one million members by 2015. (2) A Chinese car company will sign a deal to sell cheap SUVs at Wal-marts across the US (less than $14k each). (3) Some Wal-marts will bring in cheaper doctors (from China and Pakistan) and start providing Wal-mart clinics at a few stores. (4) Wal-mart will start adding and extension onto all super-stores, and offer large furniture displays of cheap items made in China. (5) Chinese scooters will be marketed by 2010 and at least 30 per week will be sold at all super-stores.

The cleanliness and general shininess of Wal-Mart varies quite a bit by location. In my area, they're virtually spotless; they just remodeled one of the SuperCenters, greatly expanded the electronics department. Plasma TVs, etc. OTOH, I visited one in the Delta several months ago and couldn't believe the difference. Dirty. Dusty. Generally trashy.
