The Terri Schiavo Case Schiavo's case lands in Congress Republicans in Congress are working on bills to prevent the removal of Terri Schiavo's feeding tube. By ANITA KUMAR, Times Staff Writer Published March 11, 2005
I think what makes me gag more than anything is that, while all this legal maneuvering has been going on, it has been totally lawful for Michael to withhold basic care we would give to any human being--no teeth brushing, sensory deprivation. While she is alive, she has rights to that, I just don't get it.
My dad was hospitalized for eight weeks, and would confined to an cardiac care room. He had TV, and plenty of company. But just being in one room for so long can make anyone responsive. He stopped watching TV. He stopped receiving phone calls or seeing friends. Towards the end of his stay, I walked into his room. He neither looked up nor responded to me. He was staring at the floor, drooling.
amen.
This is what makes me believe Terri is a remarkably strong woman. I was hospitalized for four weeks about ten years ago and I was so desperate to go home I cried like a little kid. She has hung on all these years, obviously awake, aware and responsive. I think she knows she must, and she's not going to let Michael get the best of her.
Imagine her joy when she's finally home! Imagine! I want to see her poor little hand and arm rehabilitated, I really do.
