After an initial showing earlier this month, the documentary "In the Womb," which chronicles the development of a child from fertilization to birth, will be aired at least five more times on the National Geographic channel.

The two-hour film, which uses the latest high-tech 4-D ultrasound images to capture a developing girl in the womb, first aired on Sunday. National Geographic reportedly received thousands of calls in support of the documentary, prompting the rescheduling for tonight, tomorrow and March 18.

Any Freepers who didn't catch this program the first time around last Sunday owe it to themselves and their family to see this amazing production. Simply astounding quality; much more advanced than the old PBS program aobut the beginnings of each human life, IMHO.

Previous brief thread on this show here indicates that at least a few Freepers agree with me.

Especially those on the fence about pro-life or not. Like Rudy.

I saw this a few nights ago. I didn't see the entire thing but what I did see was amazing. This is the type of thing that ought to be shown in 8th grade Health class!

Thanks, glad to hear this. I was wondering if it would be appropriate for my almost 4 year old to see. After reading the last thread, maybe I'll record it and have a look first.

Baby No. 2 is set for her debut in about two months.

Thanks much, looks like it's on again tonight at 8 EST. I believe I'll tape it to show my homeschooled 2nd grader.

This sounds very interesting. I plan to watch. On thing I want to know is how they get a camera in there to film it. Or is it a really good simulation? Anyone know?

Oops, I should have read the article more closely before posting.

path of it is the actual #D and $D ultrasound images. The other part is done from computer enhancements of the ultrasound images, and then animation...It's a must see, and record..It also makes the point, forcefully, that the fetus is a living entity very early on....even pushing back the now somehow accepted" first trimester" threshold for abortions.

I checked the NGC website and apparently not yet. I'd check back in a month or so; they'd probably have it by then. Or get a friend who has sat TV or otherwise gets it and have them tape it for you.

It was wonderful. Hope it made everyone who has made a "choice" in life cry as much as I did. Beautifully done.

Considering how children rush to emulate their reproductive elders these days, I'd suggest third grade would be a good year to show this. Then show it again in a few years.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! You've hit the nail on the head. I think there's a fair amount of naivite out there about when the sexual curiousity starts for kids. 8th grade is way too late now and was when I was growing up 50 years ago. Then, 5th or 6th grade would have been appropriate - but those were more innocent times.

Now, with all the exposure they get to matters sexual in the various media, 3rd grade is probably not too soon.

You are both right. 3rd grade would be smarter and more realistic in today's world. Unfortunately things are NOT the way they were when I was in 8th grade (1982).

Even back then I realize that I was not the norm - as in I'd never kissed a boy or "gone out" with one for that matter. I was still playing with my Barbie dolls - something that I feel is normal for a 12 year old!! Sadly that's not the case any longer. Even then, I (and my siblings) was more "innocent" than the average kids in our school. I thank my fabulous parents and God for that. We got to be kids - for REAL.
