That is the UN jaws hitting the table as they read this.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said yesterday she expects John R. Bolton, Washington's ambassador-designate to the United Nations, to lead an overdue shake-up of that organization.

"John Bolton was my first choice," Miss Rice told editors and reporters in an interview at The Washington Times.

"I think John is a straightforward, tough-talking, very good diplomat, and I think that's what you need at the United Nations."

Mr. Bolton has been an outspoken critic of the United Nations.

In the mold of President Bush.

Another good excerpt:

"Miss Rice said Mr. Bolton's past experience as undersecretary of state for arms control and international security and as assistant secretary for international organization affairs stands him in good stead.
He is, Miss Rice said, the person needed to help grapple with the challenges of how the United Nations is going to reform itself and remain relevant in the 21st century.
Yesterday, the State Department announced that Shirin Tahir-Kheli, a former Johns Hopkins University professor and a member of the White House National Security Council, has been appointed senior adviser to the secretary of state on U.N. reform. She would report directly to Miss Rice. "

===

By the time Bush, Condi and Bolton get through with the UN, it will either be completely reshaped with no resemblance to the current, useless, corrupt organization, or it will cease to exist.

Its good to see we have a Secretary of State, a UN ambassador, and a President who do not worship at the altar of the United Nations.

I would be tempted to withdraw from the UN altogether, if it were my call, but second down from that is to demand its reform, which is what Bush and Rice are prepared to do.

She said tha Bolton is expected to lead the effort to "reshape the world body, and he would do so as an integral part of the Bush administration."

One could read that as we'll be making it over in our own image.

When I get a few minutes later this evening, I want to google for info on Shirin Tahir-Kheli.

I didn't read it like that but on the otherhand, I don't think it's such a bad idea. I guess liberals and socialists wouldn't like that. They think that all of the evil in the world is due to the U.S.

That's assuming that the UN wants to be led.
