"""nopardons, are you familiar with Charles C Coffin, a civil war journalist? Three of the books he wrote were Land of Liberty, Sweet Land of Liberty, The Boys of 76. Excellent reads, all of them. Not fast reads either. Very thought provoking. Land of Liberty begins in the 13th century, sharing unfortunate church history and how the puritans ultimately ventured to the new land...and why. It also includes the truths of Salem's witch trials and how they were a percentage of what had been going on in Europe for many years. Much more is written of course.

I urge everyone to read these fine books."""

You urge everyone? Or just me. Somehow, I don't think that
that you were sincerly earnest in your recommendation.

Laura, earlier in this thread I encouraged you to read those books. My last post was yet another encouragement to do so. In fact, everyone *should* read them to gain an amazing knowledge of how 'we' came to desire and appreciate the liberty set before us in this great land. Good reads for EVERYONE! I have the set of three and plan to acquire his writings from the civil war (would go rather nicely with my ancestor's civil war diary and picture). Charles Coffin had amazing insight to go along with his incredible knowledge of history.
