I admit I don't know the deeper points of this story, but I wonder if it is possible there is a little Stockholm syndrome brewing here?
Another FReeper said something about this being a case of reverse Stockholm syndrome. That's an interesting perspective...
Or--it could be a case of a woman who has been taught by training and faith to respect all people as children of God and her background, and more importantly, the Living God, was present, who helped bring this horrible event to a peaceful conclusion. God has thousands of years of doing this kind of thing on His resume.
I got hammered for that this morning.
