Stupid? I'll tell you stupid - stupid is to hold a whole nation hostage over a few caribou. That is stupid.
Please rationalize the worth of giving a whole reserve to caribou while we have people on welfare in the U.S. who, of course, can not pay higher gasoline bills.
A little common sense in government would be very helpful to taxpayers.
"Perhaps, but I wouldn't have a problem if the environmentalist whacko's had won... Seems a little F'n stupid to me over a 6 month supply of oil."
What is fact and fiction here? First I hear that we're talking about six months worth of oil.. then I hear that these are large reserves.
Looks like you need to check your stupid meter. I think it may be stuck....
Where do you get your information? According to Interior Sec'y, there is at least 30 YEARS of 1+ million barrels per day in ANWR. That would go a long way toward replacing what we now import from Saudi Arabia (1.5 M barrels/day).
Also, Prudhoe Bay was originally estimated to have 9 trillion barrels of oil; now pumping past 11 trillion. New estimates are 14+ trillion there. So we don't really know until we go after it.
Are you confusing this with the National Petroleum Reserves?

the "6 months supply" argument is a great example of how to lie with statistics
ANWR will provide only 6-12 months of oil IF WE STOP BUYIING OIL FROM EVERYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD AND RUN THE ENITRE COUNTRY ON OIL FROM ANWR!!!!!
We couldn't even pump it out of the ground that fast! It could replace the 1 million barrels/day we get from Saudi Arabia for 30 years.
Same amount of oil, different rates of usage. The 6 month rate is impossible, the 30 year rate is more realistic.
6 month suppy.?. So then you've been brain washed by disinformation....
Alaska has more oil than Saudi Arabia.. its not just in ANWR..
It opens the door to drilling others places in Alaska.. mostly on federal land..
Also; if oil can be drilled why not the other vast natural resources there.. like natural gas(for the new pipe line), gold, copper, chromium, manganese etc..
Alaska is pretty hamstrung by federal regulations...maybe that can be addressed too...
The federal government should NOT own the peoples land.. any of it.. including the parks.. The people in a state should own their own land.. No one is a citizen of america, they are citizens of a state.. that resides in America.. Thats why this is a republic and NOT a democracy.. A republic of citzens of states.. In a democracy the citizens are citizens of the democracy.. the provinces are branches of the democracy not soverign enties.. like states are.. Thats why they are called states here and not provinces.. like in a much more primitive goverment, like Canada.. which "is" a democracy.. and citizens are citizens of Canada.. and residents of a province..
You apparently have swallowed the propaganda then..
There is enough oil in the "pristine wilderness" to float a tanker on Lake Erie!
Now that's "f'n" stupid for a poster to have been gullible enough to suck up the lies laid by the left.
Six months? Perhaps if we had no other sources of oil, but that will never happen. What this does is give a tremendous shot in the arm to steel companies, and hundreds of other small and large businesses. Do you really think any oil-field related business would get involved if it meant spending 3 yrs of time, talent and money on 6 months worth of oil?
