Could you imagine how many Democrat activists would be "guilty" of these same acts. No Democrat governmnet worker ever printed a page or copied a page for private purposes or political purposes without paying for the page. No Democrat has ever had a Secretary in their government office notarize a form. Heck, I'll bet that when a Democrat politicain runs for office, a publicly funded Secretary commonly notarizes the forms.
"No Democrat has ever had a Secretary in their government office notarize a form."
I used to work in a federal office. The legal department had a notary, and I had no problem getting her to notarize a non-government paper. It didn't cost the government anything. The Democrats' posturing on ethics here seems to be pretty selective.
Agree with the sentiment. But actually, there was nothing even remotely wrong with Mr. French asking for a form to be notarized. That's because he asked a Notary Public to notarize the form. A Notary Public holds his commission personally from the state's Secretary of State for a specific time period. The Notary Public must provide his services to anyone requesting such within his jurisdiction (the state of commission) as long as certain conditions are met. The Notary Public may charge a nominal fee for these services except for things like voting.
Now, certain offices may require an employee holding a particular position, such as legal secretary, to become a Notary Public. The office generally pays the necessary fees for commission. This is a matter of convenience for the office. But the commission of Notary Public is totally separate from the position even though it is the same person.
A Notary Public cannot be required to notarize anything. He must provide the service unless he has cause to believe it is wrong. This is strictly between the Notary Public and those who request his services and has nothing to do with any office position.
So the charge of requiring a legal secretary to notarize a signature is as specious as a charge of masticating in public. Just another example of our wonderful clueless partisan media at work deceiving the public.
