Hillary Clinton gets it
Intern. Herald Tribune/The New York Times ^ | March 17, 2005 | Nicholas D. Kristof

Posted on 03/18/2005 11:44:21 AM PST by yoe

NEW YORK If the Democratic Party wants to figure out how to win national elections again, it has an unexpected guide: Hillary Rodham Clinton.

.

. [snip]The first lesson Clinton is demonstrating is the need to talk much more openly about God and prayer. That resonates in a country where a Pew poll found that 60 percent of Americans pray at least once a day.

. [snip]"I've always been a praying person," Clinton declared recently.

. [snip]Democrats are usually more comfortable talking about sex than God. But that doesn't work in a country where 70 percent say that "presidents should have strong religious beliefs."

. [snip]The Democratic Party commits seppuku in the heartland by coming across as indifferent to people's doubts about abortions or even as pro-abortion. ...

. . . [snip]Clinton is also hard to dismiss as a screechy obstructionist .

[snip]The makeover is working with New York state voters. Clinton has an approval rating in the state of 69 percent, according to a New York Times poll.

. [snip]In small towns like Yamhill, any candidate from New York carries a lot of baggage, and Clinton more than most. Moreover, television magnifies her emotional reserve and turns her into a frost queen. Clinton's negative ratings nationally were around 40 percent at last count, and Hillary-hating thrives.

.

You are from MD. That explains it. MD turned in its Southern passport a long time ago.

I remember this joker. He used to be a lot more visible during the early Reagan years. Anything the Gipper did was going to blow up the world and starve senior citizens. No wonder he's in love with St. Hillary.

"Hillary-hating thrives."

It does in my home. It's one of the reasons I get up each day. Hag.

I see what you're saying, but elections are so close now that a large issue like this is enough to sway it to her. I've been sick about this for a while, ever since I realized Bush isn't going to do anything about it.

Looking at history, I don't see how anyone can not call it southern. Today's politics here are ruled by a high percentage of government workers and black voters. We have three counties that go something like 50,000 Repub, 250,000 Dem. It's next to impossible to over come those large gaps with the rest of the state. But we are mostly red here.

If we knew when Bubba was lyin' - which was most of the time - why would we trust Shrillary - Bubba without the charm?

Re: "But we are mostly red here."

Mass. can make the same claim so can upstate NY. MD has very rarely voted with the rest of the South. Sure of all the reasons you cite but all those people are from MD as well and unless attitudes change MD will be outside the South when it comes to elections. Remember Virginia has a butt load of Government workers as well plus a very large chunk of Appalachia as well. Yet we have the best GOP voting record in the South (tied with OK), and was the first Southern state to head toward the GOP in state government. It is a question of world views and values. Much of our poor, labor and government employees share the conservative POV while those same types in MD do not. It is the culture, Virginia is the very definition of the South while MD used to have it, it has lost it.

I agree, but Virginia is a huge state. We have three highly populous areas, and they vote dem heavily

We are no where near a HUGE state. We are just about in the middle in size, it is our reputation, history and intellect that is HUGE. Oh and we are modest as well. :-)

Hillary Clinton represents the ultimate triumph of the craven and hypocritical in politics. A true charlatan in every sense of the word, a political streetwalker searching for every lighted lamppost on the block, she sleazes towards any niche issue that may garner any momentary electoral advantage.

The true blame for her current political success lies in those who would be fooled by the words of her positions, neglecting her entire history, philosophy and character. As if she believes a single word of her slick spiel, which will be discarded the moment any bloc of ignorant POS's re-elects or elects her.

She rides on a base of the truly corrupt, including feminist political whores, parasitical maggots and the tooooooootally like "progressivist" morons , who would be the first ones executed by the likes of a Hillary for being A) revolutionarily minded and B) being stupid enough to elect her. A fast check of history for the so-called enlightened Marxist schmucks that goose-step to the "free-thinking radical" movement, would show that their worthless idiot butts were the first up against the wall, come the October "like Nirvana...dude" Revolution.

I used to wonder in amazement how a civilized nation in the 1930's could elect a person like Hitler. I wonder no more.

I don't know, I don't think I'd mind having a conservative, chaste, lesbian as president. But I think it would probably be hard to find one.

Well .. if you're saying that a divorced person (even though a born again Christian) is against GOD's law - you are way off track.

It was the church who welcomed me in and helped me get my life back together. I believe Hillary's divorce would not even be an issue.

This is SO right on the mark it needed to be posted twice. If Hillary is a "Political Streewalker", I guess that makes Billy boy her Pimp.
